A curry hook.

The 604 has a curry hook. Unfortunately, it didn't migrate from LHD to RHD, so it's in the drivers footwell. Nice one, Peugeot.

Rain sensitive wipers.

I don't get these. How hard is it to switch on a wiper compared to how annoying it will be when they inevitably go wrong and squeal across your window constantly? I think they are the epitome of laziness. Automatic lights, i can see the point of as they are defo a safety feature for forgetful people.

An automatic car stereo that switch over everytime it heard Steve Wright, that is something I would pay for.

I have a voice activated car stereo. If I say "Heavy Metal" it plays Iron Maiden, if I say "news" it goes to Radio 4. Driving home the other day my car got hit by a football, and I shouted "Fucking Kids!", and the stereo started playing Gary Glitter.

Decent rain sensitive wipers are fucking brilliant. They're just a very intelligent 'intermittent' setting really, but on one of those days where the weather doesn't know what to do and one minute there's a torrential downpour, followed by no rain, followed by spitting etc rain sensitive wipers come into their own. I hate fiddling with wiper settings and can never quite get intermittent timing quite as I like it. Rain sensitive ones do it spot on far more often than I ever have.

They also have a switch, so if they're being annoying, turn 'em off.

^ This. The ones on my X Type speed up, slow down or stop as required, and are way better than the setup on my W203.

Mine have never worked and now the automatic lights don't either.

Sensor issue maybe? I think it's the same one that does both, and it's supposed to be here.

Looks like a bugger to get at, mind.

Yep, the rain sensor is definitely cabbaged and likely the light sensor now. Became more and more erratic then failed almost completely.

Sometimes the lights will come on when accelerating hard or when navigating a roundabout.

Very often people in front will pull into the inside lane and I realise that they think I have been flashing them to get out of the way

The sensors are dead easy to get at but the rain sensor is £170 so won't be getting replaced.

I did like the automatic lights though..

the rain sensors on my 607 only work properly if the windscreen (or at least the bit with the sensor on it) is rain-ex'd

if the water doesn't bead over the sensor the wipers go nuts and go to full speed even if it's just drizzling, still with a bit of rain-x on them they work brilliantly

however the feature I would really like is polycarbonate body panels for the wife's car

Well the reason I wrote rain sensor is because it's the only thing I miss when I'm driving my Mark 1 Laguna. Constant fiddling with the interval setting gets really annoying after the PERFECT timing of the auto wipers in the Mégane. They really are excellent, they always get it right and I've never needed to over ride them.

The auto wipers in the Avantime on the other hand are shit. They're FAR too sensitive, they seem to see the rain coming and spring in to life far too early. Then in anything other than light drizzle they seem to think fast setting is required.

I think it really is luck of the draw with rain sensors. But when they work they're fantastic.

Oh... auto-dimming rear view mirrors as well. You only appreciate them after having a car with one then going back to the normal mirror.

One feature I have and wish I didn't, is a sunroof. My previous 800 began to rust around there; they all do. No suprise, really.

Edit:- I've just realised I've left myself wide open for comments like "why single out the sunroof", when there are dozens of other carefully built in faults? Hey ho.

Rocket-launcher in the boot.

+1 :D In fact almost anything Q can fit into one of Bond's cars... To hell with it, just pass me the DB5 and I'll be happy.*

*Not the LHD one Daniel Craig won in Casino Royale, I mean the one Q built for 007 in Goldfinger. "Whatever you do, don't press the red button, Bond." Yeah right.

I must apologise for my ignorance regarding the automatic wipers. I have never had them so was making the mistake of judging without proper understanding or consideration.

I still dont want any mind you. It might be one of these things that makes me forget how to react when I am in an older car that does not have them like lights that buzz when you leave them on. I used to always check my lights when I got out of the car but since I got a car that buzzed to tell me if I had forgotten, I stopped. Since then I must have run down about 5 batteries doing that.

I can see me driving along in a monsoon with no wipers on at all in my GT6 if I got used to having some auto wipers in another car. I am that dozy.

One thing I will miss in the winter is an electric passenger window to allow me to see if anything is coming when turning right at a junction, as the Audi is keep fit windows. Its so wide I will also have trouble leaning over to do it manually......

Little story here... One fine day (it was too, gorgeous for April and I had the day to myself) I needed to pick something up from Wallasey. I lived in Southport, so logically I should have just dived into Liverpool, zip through the Wallasey Tunnel, and back, right? It's never that easy. For a number of reasons I wanted to take this:

BuickandDaimler-vi.jpg

My 1980 Buick Century (not the Daimler  ). I think this was after it had been laid up a bit, so it needed a run. LHD with manual windows, and nobody available to accompany me. No reasonable way, therefore, of dealing with the tollbooths on the tunnel. So I drove all the way to Widnes, crossed on the bridge, and all the way up the Wirral to the end. And back. Mind, in that car, it was no chore... but electric windows would have shortened the trip considerably. I'm still amazed that I found a Buick so young that didn't have any!
