What are the best shitemobiles to be out and about in during the summer sun season ?

Posted

Not sure if a mk1 mx5 really counts as shite but its the idel summer toy.

Or for shite value it must be some aftermarket botched soft top job

All classic cars are fun to be out and about in the summer months!, I guess i could vote for my Golf Cabriolet, cheap, practical and great fun with the hood down but i guess that could be said for any convertible in the summer!

Daihatsu Charade Convertible sounds the job,or maybe a Yugo 45 chopped off

Ford Escort 1.8 estate with a towbar.

AS IF. Where would one find such a gem at this time of year?

Citroen Visa Convertible anyone? I've always wanted one of these... Bonus for it's back doors!

Under 25? You can impress the 'laydees' with a Corsa Convertible...

As long as it's a Mk5/Mk6, I wouldn't say 'no':lol: ! I'd happily have one of these though. Extra shite points for rare Firnwood Green and full leather interior option...! Mmmmm!

For me the best summer shite has to be that Visa, is it povvo spec with the 2 whole cylinders ?

voiture pour un roi shite.

Or a Skoda Rabid convertible... like this one 3311326611_45d49a3962.jpg

Over here? Anything with working aircon! Driving the X with the top off, I've had to start wearing a hat so the top of my head doesn't burn! Another advantage of aircon: I could keep all the windows shut, then I wouldn't be inhaling everyone else's fags'n'diesel.

Also: anything with cloth seats. I've got leather in the X and vinyl in the Granada. You can imagine...

Sorry, week whatever-it-is-now* of heatwave is getting to me...

*12, I think, I've lost count!

How about this one I spotted last year, a Toyota Celica Sunchaser?

Honestly, I could have made a better looking cabrio myself with a hacksaw and some vinyl sheeting!

A nice white Cavalier MK2 Convertible auto would appeal to me,with the 'CD' wheels and earler mesh front grill. Another pretty little job was the Crayford MK1 Fiesta

I discovered wind in the hair motoring late in life, (a brief sojourn with a Suzuki Jeep (LJ80 not SJ410) in my early twenties doesn't really count as an 800cc 4x4 was not the ideal thing for summer cruising; or indeed going anywhere any season above 40 mph) at the age of 37; inspired by the ballad of Lucy Jordan, having very little hair but lots of wind I bought a 1999 Mazda MX5, really enjoyed driving it except in bloody summer :x was too sodding hot all the time had to wear a hat as ER rightly says to stop getting burnt to a frazzle, hat inevitably got red hot, made me sweat like a pikey in Comet, got soaked in sweat etc etc and somehow found the weather went from baking hot to fugging cold in about, oh let me see, 5 minutes, it was never just comfortable to be out with the roof down zizzing along a country lane living the dream.

Mid life crisis over, or put on hold, the MX5 was sold to another over weight balding 'enthusiast' who exchanged hard cash for a chance at reliving his youth, aircon is much better, even if it does collect all your germs and bacteria n spits them back at you whenever you dare to feel remotely healthy.

Rare, shite, and a drop top.

This has to be a contender.

Or, for those of a Barrying persuasion:

For added shite points, this one seems 3 door hatch based. Why do this, when a much easier chop is possible on the 2 door saloon?

Talbot Samba Cabriolet.

Newspaper ad, complete with someone who really is glad to see a girl with a funky 1980s hairdo.

Or, in a similar vein, the Wind concept car:

AFAIK, the Wind wasn't a mere concept car. It was produced, but priced/marketed as a premium product and only sold in small numbers. Like the Rancho, too far ahead of its time.
