O/T: Calling the Scottish massive!

Sorry it's o/t but does anyone have an idea how much a one way flight from Edinburgh to Liverpool costs please? Yes, I have done an internet search but I refuse to believe it takes five hours and cost £1,300!

Is there some sort of default thing where it's set to financially ruin us poor Cestrians, or do they not do flights to Liverpool from Edinburgh?

Posted

Wikipedia seems to indicate Edinburgh isn't a destination from John Lennon airfield - presumably the 5hr/£1300 job is a Flybe one that stops in Dublin or somesuch.

You tried www.skyscanner.net I assume?

When is this flight due to take place? Prices can vary from time of day etc though £1300 does sound steep!

Edit - Looking on Easyjet i think Welf is right, you have to go via Ireland.

Lastminute.com are saying over £1000 as well but you have to go via Amsterdam!

National Express Cattle Class Bus

09:00 LIVERPOOL (Coach Station) EDINBURGH 17:45 8h 45m £32.20

A quick search on nationalrail.co.uk suggests you can get a train ticket for 60 quid.

My diary reveals I can do it tomorrow for £650. Half the price of budget cattle airlines, and better legroom too. Witty banter for free, and half a flask of tea as well. Get it right round ye O'Leary. That's customer service.

tend to use the train to get to scouse land - flightwise you can easyjet it to....Manchester

Prestwick isn't too bad for Edinburgh as you can hop on the train straight from Prestwick to Glasgow. With Glasgow you need to get a bus to Paisley train station then onto Glasgow and then to Edinburgh.

Posted

There are no scheduled flights- though £1,300 could get you a private plane!

There's more choice from Ringway...either FlyMAYBE or the somewhat saltier bmi regional (according to Liepedia, easydeath don't ply the route).

Thankyou gents. I've re-done a tinternet search and going to Manchester is only about £43.00, plus getting a train back from there would be piss easy. Never flown before either so that should be a laugh!

The train is £77.00 back to here and to be honest whilst I could probably stomach spending just shy of five hours going by rail I couldn't hack the same amount of time without having a bifter. Yeah, I should give 'em up but reckon I'd be hatching plans to murder the whole carriage within the first two hundred yards knowing I couldn't smoke.

Word of warning with the plane. Think you still need a passport AND don't forget your actual duration will be much, much longer than the flight time - though you can reduce this by turning up as late as possible, as we once accidentally discovered... (another tip, don't use an Isuzu Trooper Mk1 if you're in a hurry to get to an airport and already running late...)

I THINK photo ID will suffice (UK Driving Licence) this works on the Irish ferries.

So, Cav, what shite are you delivering. Oh, and don't forget a roadtrip thread!

Bollocks. No photo driving licence and no passport :(

William is kindly looking into bringing the ex-Bol Cav GLS up for me as a hospital op date is imminent.

Billy, seriously mate, it's jolly decent of you but I should be able to wangle a trip down - it's no distance really and I do have to go down there soon

Posted

I'll follow you up and bring you back for fuel costs if it's any good to you?

Buy some chod and drive it back? Glasgow is meant to be full of cheap old motors.

Posted

Aye, not a bad option that Tim. Might scour eBay for that area and see what auld shite comes up.

Warren: cheers mate, might take you up on that and it'd be a bloody good laugh.

OR stick your scooter in the boot!

It's gone Tim, plus in all honesty spending 27 hours strapped to a breezeblock going down the side of various mountains would be more comfortable.

Here's a thought though: will it spaz the autobox up on the Cav if it were towed all the way?

I prefer to travel in the seats thanks you very much!

306 td Chod could be surplus to requirements if you fancy that - been heavily smoked in so might save you on fags, when you get the urge put you mouth round the passenger headrest and breath in!

Hmm, that might be do-able...

I'm doing a bit of an audit on it at the moment - checking all than needs doing...thing is I suspect that the Mrs ain't too impressed with it and it was bought for her to use. Looks like she may well use the Cav until I can sort her out with a peepul caweeyer at some point.

Mchanically it is pretty tight with the exception of the shit I have listed - apparantly 5 door 306tds are not very common.

had it out today - v impressed with the torque..

we could also always meet Carlisle if u want..

anyway, it's an option

Towing an auto all that way would deffo spaz up the autobox.

National Express cattle class, and I'll prescribe you some Nicorettes.

I'd have eaten them by the time we left Edinburgh unfortunately.

Scooters: as long as it gets me back I ain't too arsed mate. 240 odd miles each way according to AA route planner. No qualms about leaving at 4.00am or something equally daft, it's just trying to sort a day/time now. Could be a couple of weeks away unless I get a pass out from swmbo later this week.

Carlisle could be good but if I can wangle a day one weekend I don't mind doing the full hit if neccessary.

anytime is fine my end - hospital date is not confirmed yet. Liverpool to Edinburgh is about 4-4.5 hours...M6-M74-A702

I'm getting on with sorting the bits - ideally will have the handbrake done first and the engine mount - still looking for a suitable lock set...if the bits aren't finished by then - cash your way

I'm in Blackpool and Wigan the weekend of 16.9 to 19.9 I can drop you of somewhere useful if it's any help.....
