hello from me a newcomer to this forum

a dude gave me a sticker at leeds cruise saying check it out so here i am, i hope to fit in as i have had many many mobile dust bins in the last 18 years or so.

for most of those fine vehicles i have been the last keeper before the final squashiness ,i sit here somewhat uncomfortably as in those early years i sent a 2 door mk2 escort gold with brown vinyl roof to the scrapper  , a brown mini with white roof and 10" weller white wheels met the same fate as did a mk2 golf gti 4dr a sierra sapphire,a bunch of novas a mk3 granny scorpio 2.0i a mk1 granny 3000e white with black vinyl roof  should i go on?....

well i'm gonna go on anyway its good therapy i think a mk2 cavalier glsi, a citroen zx1.9td, 2 mondeos, pug 205d,mk2 fiesta,mk4 escort bla blah right i'm done.

i have sold a one or two though another golf,a vectra,89 bmw 316 and a nova twice but thats it,not really made any money there but i have not spent much either.

i still own a 1967 hillman imp 875 or at least most of one anyway i gave up on it a long time ago as it dissolved at a way faster rate than i could weld, i will post some pictures of it on here when i get chance you will love whats left of it, i also still own my first car a mk5 2.0 cortina ghia in white though its still in my dads garage 40 miles away and needs loads of stuff doin welding engine everything

anyways i am really waffling now and thats one thing i probably wont do if you ever meet me in person bit of a quiet one :|

eres some pics of my current banger nicknamed plop by the kids an austin allegro 1100 deluxe not had it very long ,bought it on ebay got the train from leeds 6.30am travelled to tenby south wales picked it up put some rent on it and drove it 400 miles back to north yorkshire litlle fella didn't miss a beat for a 1000 miles until this nice modern clean your engine fuel stuff started dissolving the rusty fuel tank from the inside, i'm on my seventh fuel filter in two weeks but a better fuel tank is on the way from bltransverse in london

yeah right i'm waffling again hope you like the pics

Indeed, that's ace. I don't normally approve of names for cars but yours is spot-on.

Welcome to AS.

Indeed. Welcome along, and much kudos for the beige holy grail of shite you own.

Louise 2CV to reception......

What an excellent car man, you cant get better than that surely. I'd LOVE to try an Austin Allegro one day. Welcome to Autoshite.

There is something about that style of numberplate that looks so right especially on cars of this era. Lovely bit of industrial design that.

Allegro isn't too shabby either!

cheers and thanks for welcome glad you like my aggro, will post some pics of my other shite when i get chance

What a bloody lovely old Aggro that is. Like Sterling, I too REALLY want to try out an Allegro one of these days. I just can't imagine what they're like to drive.

Again, a smashing old car that, and a hearty welcome to AS.

Looks to me like an Aggro 2 in Sandglow. 48 bhp 1098 A Series for the win. Tobaccoo brown vinyl??

Sweet.

Posted

Gillian McKeef to the front desk cos your car looks like shit! That brown colour would have me worried if my No.2s looked that shade!

However, it also looks fantastic!

Welcome to Autoshite to both Plop and you.

I imagine an Allegro drives like a flabby Mini. And that it's quite bouncy.

Posted

I assume that would have been Mk1 4Dr you say at the Leeds cruise.

Nice looking car that. Looks very original. Proper 70's colour.

Posted

wow gotta admit slightly overwhelmed by response and some of nice comments thanks again

i signed up for allegro club for cheaper insurance,i then introduced myself on their forum and got only two wellcome messages sniff in weeks weeks

Welcome!

Apparently, I was bought home from the hospital as a newborn in a Allegro of that particular shade. Explains a lot.....

Welcome along,

You appear to be doing well in an experiment to keep 3 cars worth of rust in one place. If only it was on the Vectra :D

hi all ,small update to my allaggro project

plop the aggro started consuming fuel filters at a rate of about two a week after about 1400 miles of not missing a beat :? ,i bought the car at the beginning of june.

plop must have been stood about unused for years and i have been using it like you would a normal car to go to work in using modern fuel with the leaded additives.

while out on the a1 on the way to a visit a friend i couldnt hold 60 mph plop was suffering some fuel starvation i pulled over at wetherby services to see what i could do,finding a blocked fuel filter and fuel that looked like really strong tea :x .initially i thought someone was having a laugh as i dont have a locking fuel cap!

after blowing out the fuel filter as best i could i carried on at 45mph down the motorway which was about as fast as i could travel smoothly on the kangaroo juice!

anyways a return journey had to be made using backroads as 45mph on the motorway dont feel safe

the next day a good carb clean was carried out the float chamber was full of silt and crud yak

i got plop into the garage and took the tank out expecting to just give the tank a good wash and flush,i had expected the ethanol content in our modern fuel had dissolved some ancient fuel tank sludge but how dissapointed was i to find wall to wall rust  even the tank sender had seized solid dammit, just too far gone to save imho

it seems that allegro fuel tanks are a bit of a rare item but i managed to track one down after a tip off from the allegro club forum,i got hold of a tank from bltransverse in london thankfully the tank was in really good nick i just had to wait for two weeks

so i fitted the tank after a good coat of anti rust paint and another coat or two of stone chip, while fitting the tank i managed to tweak one of the rear flexi hoses to the hydrogas displacer ever so slightly causing a lot of fizzing and squirting of foul smelling hydrolastic fluid.i had disturbed a corroded suspension pipe gad dammit so i spat my dummy out and borrowed a car to go home in.

the next morning i was greeted by this sight mmmmm saggy :|

plop1.jpg

plop2.jpg

yeah right time to borrow a hydrolastic pump, i spent my dinner hour replacing the rear half of a suspension pipe on the aggro.i used some copper pipe flaring one end using a flare tool and the original flare nut,i used a compression joint at the other end which appears to have held out.

thats better i am hoping thats it for a bit now though if i wanted trouble free motoring i probably shouldn't have got an allegro

plop has been cheap enough to run though the fuel tank at £100 has been my most expensive purchase so far even the four tyres didnt rush me that (trade price  )

anyways next installment of the saga coming soon, cheers :)
