That garage with the 'abanonded' Fiesta in North Wales

I drove past this today (and the week before).

I always spot the old place with the totally infamous, dilapidated Fiesta xr2 thingy, but it appears to have now been totally demolished with the only thing standing is a people carrier covered in algae which has been shunted up the slope on the right of the building!

I felt kinda sad seeing it gone, if only for that Fiesta!

Actually I'm sure that's the place that ripped my mate off years back for some work on his car.

Be a shame if the fezza has gone, he told me (and I think someone else) that it 'would' be restored. Waste of hard to find parts if it's been crushed.

It’s gone  . That was a landmark along the coast road for me. Very sorry to hear that. It had stood there for years… Locally registered to Chester too…

I never went up close to it, but it did look very rotten from the roadside as I passed. As much as I fancied it myself, I think it would have taken a hell of a lot to restore it. It would have been a decent source for parts, but suspect mega-bucks to put it right.

My 406 went there to have its head gasket sorted. Went there based on a recommendation from someone else. Guy seemed fairly honest :) I think he actually lives in the house next door so if anyone wanted to ask :)

The last time I went past and saw it, I slowed down and looked (from the car) and noticed the bloke glaring at me (with menace) from the window. Obviously preparing his 'Is that for sale mate?' reply. :)

If anyone wants me to go and ask I'm nore than happy to, it's only a few miles from home :)

I know of a closed garage in North Wales with an 'abanonded' Rover P4 at the front of it.

That's probably the same bloke who gave me a funny look when I drove past whilst I was up there buying my (sadly departed) Carina-E. Last time I saw the Fiesta it was shoved up the side but it's sad to hear if it has gone :(

I think I know the one you mean, near Rhonnda up in the valleys, at the top of a frigging long hill (narrows it down a bit, I know)

Remember going to Anglesey in 1991,passed an old petrol station which was falling down and there was a yellow MKIII Cortina amongst the bushes - I noticed the car immediately because Mk III's were rare then. Car and garage gone now.

For me that Fiesta was just the 'starter' prior to the shite 'main course' just along the road - the Duke of Lancaster!

I can't see that thing often enough, plus theres a fabric shop nearby which Ms_Bol is a fan of, so she can go in there for an hour or two while I go and soak up the positive vibes from this great big rusty hulk of shite.

I bet the owner wouldn't sell. Do you know how much they go for when they're fixed up!?!?! :D

Something fishy* about that ship. It seems to be very well guarded by some Scouse security types apparantly.

That (coast) road was an absolute mecca for shite at one point. From Queensferry-Connahs Quay-Flint-Bagillt-Press me hat in-Rhyl it was a veritable cornucopea(sp) of old shit.

Cambridge/Oxford Farinas seemed to be a massive hit round those parts once upon a time, nearly every garage along that road would have one or two rotting away somewhere.

http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/sho ... hp?t=18739 Shame theres no pics of the inside!

On 25 April 1970 the ship returned to service, having had her main deck rebuilt to accommodate vehicles via a door at her stern. The ship now provided space for 1,200 single-class passengers and 105 cars, with a total cabin accommodation for 400 passengers

Sounds like an ideal secret Autoshite HQ and Shite party venue!

With only the moonlight and the glow of Merseyside to assist us, we put the rehearsed plan in effect, and soon after we boarded the legendary Duke of Lancaster.

Remaining constantly alert we made our way around the decks...

They seem a little daft. It's a derelict ship, not some top secret military facility!

I saw the Duke of Lancaster for the first time last year, while chauffeurring a pair of MB competition winners to North Wales in an S-Class (and why the hell not).

Took the coast road via Prestatyn, a place I'd never been before. I honestly never imagined there were that many static caravans in exsitence. Surely must be one of the wonders of the world.

I live just outside Prestatyn, I know what you mean about static caravans, I'd never seen so many until I arrived here.

The garage was very dilapidated! I can't imagine it was a nice place to work in during the winter, it wasn't very weatherproof, I remember walking in one day and there were gaps between the roof and wall everywhere!!!!!

I think I remember that one, it was based literally up the road near to where the model shop and pub (now a building company HQ) is. I went past it in about 1989 coming back from a holiday in Wales with my folks.

A lad I know asked to buy that Fiesta about 15 years ago.

The fella told him it wasnt for sale and was planning to restore it.

I think it is pretty well secured by 'gypsy' types. It was used for retail storage as well but I'm not sure if that is still the case.

Anyway, someone does own it and it is occupied most of the time - or at least was.

what an evocative site!

seems the owners are a 'leisure' company from Liverpool and now use it for storage - Wiki says they have no plans to restore or sell - looks dodgey as you like.

I recall the two other 'Fun' Ships - both former TSS ships like the Duke the Tuxedo Royale and the Tuxedo Princess. The Princess started on the Tyne, got moved to the Clyde for a few years and was replaced by the Royale and then back to the Tyne whilst the Royale was moved to Middlesboro'

When I was a student at Newcastle in 1990 the Princess was moored in the Tyne and was a popular night club known as 'the burt' in georide.

By 2000 they had swapped it with the Royale which had been a club on the Clyde. In 2001 my brother in law was at a party on 'the burt' and he and a couple of mates, in suits at the time, were grabbed by a group of bouncers - for no reason whatsoever - totally unprovoked, and had the shit kicked out of them. I was mates with an Evening Chronicle journo and had him crawling all over the Quadrini family for a few weeks after it which resulted in a high profile inquiry into Newcastle bouncers.

The Princess was last seen in Pireus waiting to be scrapped - end of an era indeed!

Here's another moored lesiure ship.

The Ocean Mist, originally built on the Clyde as a RN Trawler it wasn't completed until 1919 by which time the RN had no use for it so it was bought by the Guiness family as a private vessel. Itflitted between owners for years until being bought by the Canadian cattle baron, Jack Hobbs who was the owner of Inverlochy Castle ans wanted a yacht for touring the Western Isles.

My late father recalled several famliy holidays on the ship cruising the isles. His dad, my grandfather, was the factor of Hobbs's Scottish concern - the Great Glen Cattle Ranch near Fort William and was a leading light in the beef world at the time.

here's an interesting article:

I was heading through North Wales today and remembered this old garage and how it had been demolished, and lamented the final scrapping of the little Supersport which hadn't had the best of lives in the open.

Was surprised to see it resurrected as a 'modern' cheap-to-build corrugated warehouse style garage in it's place.
