Anybody in the SWINDON area willing to look at a car for me?

I'm wondering if anybody can help me with a bit of a problem I have.

Basically my Allegro went away to have a load of bodywork done, the work was being done by a good friend and he did a great job if it. The final part of the "resto" was going to be a bare metal respray, my friend recommended a third party who is apparently a God at the paint spraying lark so I gave him permission to trailer the Allegro down to Swindon and leave it with his painter buddy until it was finished.

Here comes the problem.

The guy has had it for a number of months now and my mate now can't get in touch with him, he won't return his calls or texts, he's pretty much vanished. Swindon is a bit of a long way to go to check the situation out so I was wondering if anyone on the forum lived locally that could take a look to see if the guy is still about, or even if my poor Allegro still exists? The work was all being done "pay as you go" so I have already sunk ££££'s into this Allegro.

Basically I just want to find out WTF is happening with my car, and if necessary fly down and take it away.

I'll pay petrol money to any shiter who takes the time to drop by!

This bloke, his name wasn't Kyle was it?

Unless he's moved, don't think so.

Oh man I hope you get it back. Is it worth posting some pictures and details?

Same Kyle who uses (or used to use) Retro-Rides?

Same Kyle who used to be on here. The one who took Keith Adam's immacualte Saab 9000 to replace a gearbox and windscreen, only to disappear with the car being found 18 months later with no screen under a tarp in a farmers field, with the interior ruined and the screen surround rotten.

No, its not Kyle! Although I did once attempt to buy an automatic Allegro from him, guess what, he dissapeared!

IIRC, was that the Allegro that had been sitting in his back yard for years? He had a bonfire next to it and melted the lights or something?

Tim,

I can pop down - do you know which end of Swindon?

Thats the one, it did look very solid actually. Some sort of arrangement went on (cant remember what exactly) and I sent him some new plastic lenses to replace the ones that had been melted. He put it up for sale, I said I'd buy it, some emails went forward and backwards, he vanished. A few months later he put it up for sale again and I said i'd buy it e.t.c,.e.t.c. Basically, I ended up not buying it!

I don't have any contact details at all at the moment, i'm still trying to get them from my bodywork man.

This sounds like a right old carry on. I hope it all gets sorted ASAP, I'd be freaking out of someone vanished off the face of the earth with my motor. You do hear horror stories about guys going out of business and the receivers coming in and crushing everything they leave behind..... I'm SURE that's not what's happened in this case though!

Good news guys, My bodywork bloke has been in touch with his paintwork guy and apparently hes been working abroad for a month or so and is due back on the 22nd, thats why nobody has been able to get hold of him. By all accounts the Allegro is nearly done, and just needs a bit of polishing to finish, this will be done when he returns, then its time for me to hand over some £££'s and get my Agg back!

Fingers crossed eh!

Thanks for the offer of help, but it looks like it won't be needed :).
