How bad an idea...

...would this be....

..and what do people think it's worth with a full MOT please? Ticks a lot of boxes for me but I seem to recall they rust like God knows what.

Had one of them in identical spec bar it was an Estate and column shift. After two years, sold it 2007 with heavy MOT fail sheet for £800. Values definitely rising - last two tidy MOTd runner saloons on eBay were nudging £2k

It's survived this long and is on the road so unlikely a horror of old (my Dad's one had open sills along the length before its tenth birthday), so well worth it. That one's had sills but so what, just give it a good prod like you would any car. Looks good otherwise.

I've never tried one, but they had a reputation for rot back in the '60s - which was an impressive feat then.

Your choice. The Cortina will be a lot better to drive, and a lot easier to flog if / when you get bored. Easier to fix, too.

Ok, I like your Cortina and if I didn't have too many cars already... The Victor does bugger all for me.

Cheap at that money, especially as it'll be a four speed with floor change. Pleasant to drive, and pretty comfortable. As long as it's not made entirely out of old copies of the News of the World, I'd go fot it.

I really like them. The good thing about these Victors is that there are so few left parts are very cheap and plentiful. Just make sure the sills/rear arches/rear quarters/front wings aren't cunningly constructed from wob (like my dad's FB) and you're onto a winner I reckon. If you join the owners club there's a Norf London based spares geezer who does discounted parts for club members, he's got a huge amount of stuff.

Well worth going along and having a poke around I think ;)

FC101's (so called because of 101 improvements over the FB) were indeed rusty 30 years ago. But they have an appeal - but not as strong an appeal as the FD though.

Probably worth having just to give it a go and say you've owned one. It's probably not a bad daily smoker tbh.

Cheers gents.

He's offered me a leveller against the Cortina and I have to say I quite fancy it but at the same time I don't know if I want to offload the 'tina yet.

I can't see that being a bad purchase/swap, it has a bit of everything (ie American styling, retro, shite, classic).

HIT IT HIT IT HIT IT (Just so I can offload the 1971 Haynes manual I have for one of these onto you) 8)

Looking at the picture of the rear quarter it looks like there is a HUGE amount of plod in there!

I prefer the FD or FE to one of these, like all 60's vauxhalls they rot like billyo...

From memory, that's a well where the spare wheel sits. Looks like it's been "repaired" though. As long as the inner wings / cills/floor is ok, rest is do-able.

This is absolutely irrelevant, but

I had a look at one of these as a daily 20 odd years ago & loved it.

Smooth as the smoothest of smooth things to drive.

They are sort of recumbent, but sit up when you de-clutch,

Bizarre & only £200

And just a smidge older than this one, but no seatbelts,

In hindsight I could have fitted some,

but wasn't prepared to let Mrs. barefoot out in it on here own.
