mk1_4dr Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Fantastic write-up. Im guessing its a runner now? What does the bodywork need?
Rocket88 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 Top work! As per usual with Italian stuff, every thing is designed by a sadistic weirdo with shares in plasters, Germolene, and probably haemoroid cream. NOTHING is simple. I reckon that engine was designed by a close relative of Mr Issigonis, that other well known bloody sadistic car designer
ashmicro Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Epic, nay Heroic! Looks like you're making a proper job of it. Good drills. :8
Pete-M Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 You've just cheered me up about the rot on my 604, John. Ta muchly. Heroic job on the BiTurdo there fella. Have you had the steering rack explode on it yet? Or the bloody cut off switch on the sump kick in? I've been looking at them with dangerous thoughts. I wonder what a Maserati V6 Turbo engine would be like in a Pug 604... the autos don't by any chance use the ZF4HP22 do they?
garethj Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 This is a real hero's job, a pleasure to see. And even more of a pleasure to see I don't have to do it More pleeeeease
barefoot Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 "dummy filler cap" Can you get them for all makes? I'm thinking lots & lots on the T2
jonny69 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Wow, that is some truly heroic rust fixing to do there. Fixing sills and holes is one thing, but all that grot around the windows and gutters is going to be shit.
dieselnutjob Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Nice thread. Very impressed. First a couple of curiosity pics of the bizarre dizzy cap... it's fed by two coils... ...and has contacts on two levels inside: My 604 has a very similar arrangement. I guess that the Maser isn't a 60 degree V then?
Pete-M Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 My 604 has a very similar arrangement. I guess that the Maser isn't a 60 degree V then? Pretty sure it's a 90°V. I'm still half tempted to see if I can wangle a BiTurbo lump into the 604, but it'll have to be a bloody good drive to convince me to do that.
lovejoy Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Devastatingly frightening, mon, you have big cohonas to take that lot on !!! makes my '84 Fiat 900e look concours..... I did have the pleasure of driving 2 biturbo's way back, to the Dorchester agriculture Show (!!), one was a drophead, both brand new, and never missed a beat !! bizarre, but bloody lovely, even the oval clock, good luck with the ongoing bodywork, can I ask, how much is your hourly rate ?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Blimey, I hope mine is less rusty than that!! I have just bought this to help me fix mine up: Only problem is getting it back from Stuttgart, quite a big problem admittedly
jnoiles Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 From Stuttgart. Yikes. Rental van, road trip, non stop drive?
John F Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 Devastatingly frightening, mon, you have big cohonas to take that lot on !!! makes my '84 Fiat 900e look concours..... If I'm lucky I might have some free time somewhere in 2013... I've a 200 TDi conversion to do on my LR Series 2a 109 next, followed by a 3.0 and 6-speed f28 gearbox conversion for my Calibra, then a cosmetic rebuild & 1290cc conversion for the Katana. It was hiding its rust well, there wasn't much to indicate the atrocious A and B pillar rot from the condition of the sill. Blimey Boll, how on earth did you find a biturbo front end without rotten leading edges to the wings? That must be the only one in existence! Good darts.
dollywobbler Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Stuttgart? No problem! Just speak to Wuvvum's Miserable Van Hire! Should only take a few weeks in the Iveco...
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I think it can be chopped up and lashed onto a pallet for shipping if no other 'free' scrounging options come to fruition, just gotta be patient
TimothyClaypole Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I'll buy this for £80.00 when i'm in Slovakia later this week then drive it back with your front end strapped to the roof. What could possibly go wrong...
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Right you are TC! Look forward to seeing you rock up outside my front window.
eddyramrod Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Do it do it do it!!!! And be sure to take your camera! We really want to see this story. (I think I can safely say that on behalf of every user of this forum!)
skattrd Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Great work on the car John, it does look like a labour of love.
