Indecisiveness pays off in the ULTIMAte way (MOAR PIX)

Although a Peugeot man I've always liked these, I reckon they'd suit me. And as Boobydoo says, the fact that they weren't rated at the time is a plus.

Superb!! You have now redeemed yourself

Good luck with it :)

I went out and took some slightly better pics of the beast this afternoon...so there you go:

DSCN0393.jpg

Clean wheelarch, rims taken from another Scorpio that had been bought for parts.

DSCN0392.jpg

In this shot, you get to see both the Monroe self-levelling badge and the Scorpio OC sticker...Plus some VAGuely hateful-looking thing that was parked in front of the Scorp.

DSCN0394.jpg

Not to be confused with the lowlier trim levels, only 7* examples of which were ever sold.

DSCN0396.jpg

Self-levelling system gauge. GR2 for carrying heavy objects that could move about inside the boot!

DSCN0405.jpg

Near enough immaculate leather interior. Must try to avoid taking any meals in there!

DSCN0397.jpg

Passport to free parking- checked today, and there were "REVISED prices in operation" for those that do have to pay- good job then, more space for me! Best of all is that, according to the conversion certificate itself, the conversion has made bugger all difference to emissions...Eat that, C1/107/Aygo/etc drivers- I'm probably paying less than you for my fuel, too!

You will learn that an egg timer will be more acurate at measuring the tank contents than those bloody gauges! Full or empty they seem to be.

I think they've gotten better over the last few years. It was 3/4 in P'boro and dropped down to 1/4 by the time I came here, then filled up and showed 4/4.

They do vary. The one in my old Explorer was as accurate as any petrol fuel level indicator of any car I've had. Same for the one in my V40. The moderner one in my 1.2 Clio was bollocks and seemed to rely entirely on guesswork.

Your scorpio, however is absolutely awesome, and I shall keep and eye out for it when I'm out and about. And seeing as I'm walking distance away, please get bored of it dead quick and swap it for my Proton. Please.

I was going to say those seats look well comfy, but having parked my arse in Albert's Ultima I can state that I could quite happily fall asleep in them. They're better than my sofa.

I can't see that happening anytime soon, but lemme know if you're up for a pint! :D

I was a very vocal critic of these when they were launched, but given how shocking some more modern look, the Scorpio has mellowed somewhat. Well, that's what I thought until my wife looked at the screen and said "That's really ugly." Oh well!

Looks a very smart buy though. Hard to go wrong surely? I fear another car has added itself to my wish list (but I'll have to wait for my wife to go away for a few days before buying one!).

I'm with you on that, DW. I still think it looks a bit wrong, but it's a definite looker when pitted against the horrible designs of today!

The most important thing about these cars, however, is that, you don't see how it looks when you are inside. And the experience inside is good enough for one to say "sod it, I am not in a rush, I'll just go to the outside lane, stick the cruise to 56mph, turn the stereo up a bit and enjoy the journey, one mile at a time".

I grew to love the styling of my Ultima TD, but light colours are really unflattering, they look better in dark colours like yours.

Great buy, much more pleasing than an overpriced FWD Volvo.

Sounds good. Are you vulnerable to mugging? If so, bring the v5 with you. 8)

I clearly remember liking the Scorpio when it came out. It looked all American and cool. Then I saw the front. But modern styling has gone the way of the giant fish-eyes anyway, so it doesn't look quite so weird now as it did then anyway.

Heh, the gauge in the Jeep is monumentally crap. Fill it up and it'll read empty for the first 50 miles or so, then drop to half for a while, then full, then half again, then empty, then back to half a tank just before it runs out.

I always thought they looked like a sad fish

Maybe not this exact fish but you get the idea.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about cheap motoring running on LPG - there will be no dearth of LPG user information at this rate!

But yeah, I've had a few LPG cars, and they've all been ace, broadly speaking. Only shit-bag of the bunch was a Mk2 Gowf Driver which was an old fashioned system - LPG tube stright in to the weber carb, which had a K&N thingmy on top of it, and was more often than not covered in ice and never ever got warm or ran properly. Had a 1.2 Clio which literally ran on air.

If there's one car whose looks have improved with age, it's the Scorpio

Lovely cars - really miss mine. I had a 24v 2.9 back in the 90's courtesy of the company I was working for back then.

smiley fish I reckon. Never really looked sad despite the constant mocking from neighbours. Typical company car spec - all the toys inside and nothing on the outside - not even mudflaps or hl washers.

Great purchase.

What a lovely old barge and it looks as if it's come from a good home; I do like a story with a happy ending :) A mate had an estate like CT's and he reckons it was far better than the Omega which has replaced it.

Don't wish to hi-jack your thread, but the undertakers in Tenbury still use a Mark 3 Granada hearse (the last one, is that the right mark no?) and a frog-faced Scorpio estate as the 'private ambulance' so they must still be well-loved within the funeral trade.

Thanks for the kind words, but I'll only consider it a "happy ending" if I am fortunate enough to find it intact upon returning to the UK this weekend (see grump thread for -too much- info on that)!

Most of the guy's limos and hearses will be snapped up by his customers ('customers' as in funeral directors, not dead bodies!). They really are a winning recipe- big, comfortable, quite reliable and easy to maintain.

Nice to see a happy ending, and now you really are living up to your username!

Scorpio is in lovely nick, can't be many like that still about. Seller sounds like a class bloke too!

EDIT - I would consider a big F-Off Disklok on that to keep the chavs away.

Sounds like a plan- it does have alarm, immobilizer and so on, but a visual deterrent can't do any harm.
