Great work A.V. I'm slowly coming around to the look of these Mk2 Fezzas. This'll be great once polished with a new set of plates and some matching wheels... :D

Out of interest, what would be the correct wheels on the megapov spec ones like this? Centre caps, trimz or just plain steels? Been an age since I've seen one in original condition

I’ll only repeat what others have said. Excellent workmanship there… Always refreshing to see more run of the mill, less 'sporty' models receiving that sort of treatment.

If memory serves me, I think they just had plain steel wheels. I’ll stand corrected if they did come with centre caps, but I don’t recall Populars having them.

Infact, I’m sure a passenger side door mirror wasn’t standard kit either… It certainly wasn’t on early mk3 Populars.

I had little experience of these at the time, although I did bump into the back of one once when I was driving my Manta ‘A’ and had to sort getting it fixed, and I probably wasn’t very fond of them. I recall Mk2s being somewhat rattly after a few years, was that mostly the 1.1? Also they’d often been hit and the panels looked awry.

However, 20+ years on it is great to see such a thorough job being done on a very low-spec example. It’s car like this that people will have memories of and be pleased to see one day.

Definitely right about the passenger mirror. Don't think my Fezza Pop had one. No rear wiper either and I think the centre caps consisted merely of a very small black cap just over the hub nut - though mine may have been wearing poundland trims. Yes. It did. Three different styles actually.

Ahh, marvellous work.

Pulling the nostalgia lever very well here. I had a 1987 pop plus.

It added passenger mirror, digital clock, rear wash wipe and that was it over what you have there.

Didnt even come with a wireless as standard.

Black underseal tidemark was a legal requirement in the 1980's.

Superb work there anglevan. These 950 Fiestas are remarkable, you can blezz along at 75mph in them, with the engine doing about 6000 rpm, all freaking day. I think theyre better than the 1100 fiesta (high praise indeed). Great to see a povo spec fiesta being given some high-quality TLC.

You're not wrong Mr B - I'm looking forward to rattling that engine along, & cheers for comment from the serious shite rebuilder, much appreciated.

New number plates are here, I did try dealer plates website as I wanted a Ford dealer on but never got a reply so stuff em and ordered some with the selling dealer on (Reliant and Aixim dealer at the time - for serious shite points)

The wheels should be just plain with a diddy black centre cap, see this brochure from 1986, mines an 88 so it gets the colour coded bumpers, passenger mirror, but thats it.

As to rest - again thanks for the appreciation, I'm picking it up from my mates tomorrow, plan to give it a good valet over the weekend fit the new plates and i'll post some new pics. To be honest this has been quite easy, all the rot was confined to the sills and arches, the front wings are still original, inner wings etc all spot on. I need to sort the tappets out as it has the usual top end rattle from lack of servicing. I changed the oil when I got it but i'm going to change it again in a couple of 100 miles just to freshen it up. Next big trip will probably be Newark .. If anyone has any excellant doors (or even skins) let me know but to be honest my budget has taken a hammering so might have to wait. However it still stands me at less than £400 including purchase as I sourced a lot of the parts for next to nowt. SO nice budget build..

I feel obliged to add another 'great work' type comment because that's what this is.

I've no experience of the Mk2 but my brother had a 950 Mk1 for a month before he nearly killed himself in it, it was gr9.

OK then pretty much done (for now anyway)

Spent last Sunday giving it a good valet, dug the aqua vac out and cleaned all inside, all thats left to do is the wheels / clean engine bay. And still look for some cheap doors. Thanks for the encouragement - much appreciated.

Well after we valeted we took it for a long drive, and I have to say bar a little flat spot it drove faultless, Suspension is sweet and done wonders with the new shocks and bushes etc. Has the usual Fiesta rasp that you get and quite nippy for a 950. It was nice to see the fuel gauge stay pretty static as i'm more akin to see them go down faster than the rev counter goes up on the rest of my fleet.

Will look forward to giving this some much needed use this summer, then as the start it will be handed over to my lad next year when he's seventeen if he still wants it - if not i'll happily keep it LOL..

That really is ace. I bet it would get MEGA ATTENTION at shows from loads of peeps who used to own one and had never seen one for years.

"Fuck the TR6 it was driven by my art teacher who was a paedo, look over there at the 1.1 pop. That's like my first car, what a machine"

I vote this the #1 best thread of the moment on Autoshite. Excellent work :D

Superlatives fail me, I cannot for the life of me convey just how superb that Fiesta is. So pleased to see one get restored to pov spec, just like the ones all my mates had back in 1993 or thereabouts. A hearty well done!

EPIC car! It would be even more epic if you could find a Ford Accessory floor-mounted centre console and a P21 push-button radio for it :D

Looking good! What's that aquavac thing like?

What like this

I bought the console off ebay last year for a couple of quid, it's missing the lower tray and mounting bracket and i've still not found one :( The radio was given to me, I might fit that not sure - I like the sparten look. It did have an aerial fitted to the n/s wing but I welded the hole up. It's quite wierd bombing around listening to the exhaust note and rattly dash

That really is looking nice, good work.

I personally think these were the best looking Fiesta's.
