Well after the 535 I got off Scooters that I just didn't get on with I decided that me and BMW motor cars were over, well I met a new BMW and we're very much in love! Sure there's a language problem but there's not much talking going on, if you know what I mean!!!

It's a 318 Auto!

Roof looks good :) , Mines a 100% reliable 86 E30 , I think they are great old cronks to hoon about in

Very nice cars, I had a black 318i for 2 months before someone wrote it off by driving into the back of it at 30 mph in a Renault Clio :( .

OOOF! nice, is it bronzit beige?

I've always liked E30s, they feel quite compact and no-nonsense, its almost like the car was better than its image. Theres a well informed website called E30zone but ignore the picture galleries and general chat as it will be 21-year olds talking about the same old shit.

I've got these to dick about with:

How can you not get on with a 535i (e34 assuming?) which is a splendid car, and like a 318 Auto (e30 is a splendid car also) but that engine and gearbox combination is woeful!! Maybe the fact that its shite is why your drawn to it lol

That is just about as perfect as an E30 can get, it's absolutely lush. I always found the higher the mileage on the E30s I batted about in the better they went. Hopefully they're getting over their undesirableness now and will start to be recognised for being a bloody good laugh to drive.

Oh they are. A really, really nice low mileage 325i Sport is now in the £7000 region. Even shitters are £3000.

I've had plenty of E30's before, 320's and 325's but I've just never liked them. I was given this car to sell on behalf of the mature owners and when I saw it I just thought it was another shit BMW, driven loads of them and hated them all, including a colleagues M3 E30 but this I just felt instantly at home. 80k on the clock, no idea about service history but it feels great and that's what i like! In fact exactly the opposite of the 535 which felt ponderous and lethargic around town and a mile muncher out of town but no soul, this 318 has soul!

Thanks, its been a labour of love, I owned the same car in my early twenties and regretted selling it muchly, ended up buying it back in 2008 but its a project, the mechanical bits are nearly done so its time for the bodywork when I can get the money, it'll not be worth it but its my old BMW and one with some rare spec upgradeds so it holds a special place in my heart, quick, compact, rear-wheel drive and full of driver interaction and feels 'right'

I liked the 325i Touring auto I had, but it was a bit small for my taste and is one of the few cars I find to be better in manual spec.

Unfortunately, I really don't like BMW clutches.

I have to say that my own experiences of BMW auto boxes has not been a good one, strange as they were ZF boxes so should be very robust, unless by some strange chance all the cars I had were previously owned by mongs...which is a possibility.

I have to admit I've had a roundel in the fleet since the mid 1980s.

The E30s are the 323i I have owned since it was 4 years old and the 320 that I bought for £70 in Jan 2007 and still going strong :D

Stunning chromie Henna, seen it in pics in mags at various shows and on the 'zone', never fails to impress, nicely kept.

Thanks but its a bit of a dog really and who knows what horrors may be waiting for me beneath that bodykit. I've thus far fitted a replacement engine have done quite alot mechanically to it, it had some godawfull 17" alloys on it and lowered suspension so I've reverted back to standard wheels and springs although there were some very nice new Bilstein shocks fitted by the previous owner not long ago. The next biggie will be the bodywork, if this was mint it'd be a keeper for life, its so pokey and so much fun to drive esp in the wet, that straight six is silky smooth and mine even has air con although I've not yet fitted the brand-new unused later spec R134a air-con compressor I bought off ebay for £27!

The red 318is is a similar story, I wanted that particular one for ten years then finally got it, got some standard wheels for it and have been 'de-chaving' it so I bought a standard black basic cd player to get rid of the 'OMG I CAN HAZ CHEEP CHINEZE DVD PLAYA THATS BIGGER THAN STD DIN HOLE' and will fettle the suspension back to normal, the exhaust is a hatefull pile of shit, I'd swap it for a standard one anyday. Its economical but doesn't hold the same appeal as my 325i Sport, the four-pot is rough as a butcher's ball-bag in comparision.

Henna, what is your silver E30? they both appear to be well specced what with headlight washers, am I right in thinking your 323i was an ex-press car?

Torsten get some more pics up will you! you're like a little tart who's wearing a short skirt flashing the occaisional bit of thigh, more pics!!! sometimes you get a peach of a car that might not be a top of the range one or anything flash but sometimes that peach is all it takes to restore your faith in old shite. I imagine that it will be alright on fuel and the nice thing is that nearly everything is available still except genuine RHD floor mats...and some seat cloth.

Yes it is a Marston motors sticker , still has the original dealer plates , tax disc holder , service stickers etc , one owner with FBMWSH ( till I got it ) and only 63k on the clock genuine .

Tempted to lower it but thats not the Autoshite way

SM - the 323 was an ex press car from the launch of the E30. Naturally BMW loaded with all the goodies it could at the time including an LSD, electric everything and HLWW.

The silver car is a 320 SE model with the standard SE toys including a knob that illuminates

That was a good spot then. I'm not sure if they're still going but Marston Motors (In Maaaaarston Maaaagna moi luvverrzzz) took over from Somerset Motors in Yeovil in around 1984. I can recall Somerset Motor's showroom on Sherborne road in the 1970's with all kinds of very exotic machinery - 2002Tii's and CS/6 Series Coupes that were more expensive than most houses. Thems were the dayz.

Just checked - they're not there anymore. Instead there is an identikit McDonalds style dealer in Yeovil called 'Westerly'.

Oh, and a mild 20 or 30mm slam wouldn't do any harm at all. They drive a lot better once dropped a tad.

Good spot , you must have been local to them at one point , Westerly have all the records from Marstons and I believe some of the original staff , they are on Houndstone business park c/w a showroom for those shit things they call Minis

Indeed - Somerton, Ilchester and Yeovil were old haunts baaaack in the seventies and eighties. There were some great dealerships around back then.

The older they get, the more I like E30 s :)

What he said. They seem to have that sort of certain something about them that's very appealing to the eye and gentle modifications can make them look just perfect. I don't like those 'bottle top' type wheels mind you, they just don't seem to suit the car but each to their own.

Now is probably the time to buy an old one to smoke round in too before they become a rare site or start fetching daft money. Hmm....
