DVLA -you couldnt make it up..

This quote off that thread struck me:

Technically, your cylinder capacity has gone down to 0, if you've removed the engine.

As taking the idea of stating the obvious to a new level!

Erm, aren't the replies on PH pretty much the same as the ones on this thread?

page 54 this months practical classics first readers letter on page.

Anything pre 71 you dont need documentary proof of change of engine. I might be missing something obvious, but i'll check later from a pc not the phone whilst im sat on the bog

But it's Pistonheads.

Engine size is needed for moderns -to prove taxation level. DVLA allege people have been reducing ewngine capacity to get into a lower band -hence ''proof'' its actually happened.

But this is mid 60's -ergo Historic -and free tax -irrespective of the bloody engine size.

Tis going to be an interesting phone conversation..

It's not like I've thought about having the big-ends on a 1598 Vauxhall engine offset-ground by the maximum undersize to reduce the stroke by 3mm and hence keep the Cavalier's cheap tax while having a wee bit more power...

Is it actually registered as "Historic"? If it's still down as PLG, it may explain why the computer has "spat" it out.

Reminds me - the A90 Westminster I had was registered with a 2660cc engine. Someone clearly couldn't work out what it should have at some point and ended up entering the A90 Atlantic (four-cylinder!) engine size instead. Didn't think it really mattered so presume that's what's still on the V5.

Well, nigh on 45 mins mins on the phone, but its finally sorted.

Inital Oik was quickly flummoxed by my lack of engine. Supervisor was finally caught on the 25 years 'off road' - 50 years old. Whos the expert I should take it to?

Manager finally saw the light (read 'get out' clause) when he realised its Historic. Sadly -just before I dealt that killer blow. Spent a further 5 mins confirming that I would have to initial tax at a VRO -changing from PLG to Historic -and that I could just tell them the engine size then. I intimated a large hemi fit - just off 9999cc, but he wasnt amused.

True unadulterated jobsworths -with no thought for the hassle/cost/agg they are causing. Thanks ghod its 1966- and not 1976.

Ii there a wiper motor under the bonnet? Ring them back to say you've now noticed it's an electric car.

Hey at least it got sorted reasonably amicably over the phone, i'm sure these things can get a lot worse if the wind's blowing in the wrong direction.

I'm sure they'll still find a way to say you never contacted them so pay an £80 fine

NEVER talk with the bastards. NEVER EVER. Write letters so that there's evidence of the "conversation". I've done it twice, and both times the problem was solved (if slowly), and I got a grovelling apology (a proper letter addressing my points, not a standard "we apologise for not meeting the standards" way) by a bigwig.

Posted

They still haven't responded to my "I won't accept your fine for not taxing a car I don't own so take me to court" letter. Although the debt collectors seem to have given up after I told them not to contact me again or I'd consider it harassment and report them to the regulatory body

Wow Nigel, don't you have fun down in your neck of the woods ?

First its wiper blades, now this - no such excitement out here, a falling coconut is about the most i get

must come back soon and see what's up next for you !!

Another fail on wiper blades today -Renault 9. Seems new blades & very windolened screen just isnt good enough.

Take it somewhere else, Nige. They're taking the piss, massively.

Use vinegar to clean the screen, and a little screenwash in the bottle. The less shite like Windolene on the screen, the better.

So what is the failure reason??? Ineffiency?? They must have it in for you.

Bring it over here Nige, I'll get it passed for you
