We got ourselves a Convoy! (MOAR HOT SHERPA ACTION)

Well, it's finally happened, I haz Sherpa.

Just fetched it home and I can only describe it as Pure Autoshite!

Performance is glacial, though once it's wound up the old peugeot unit punts it along quite nicely, if a bit noisily... Wouldn't want to be driving it long distance at the limit, thats fo sho.

Changing direction is entertaining, it appears to have no power assisrance, so parking is an upper arm workout... But it's ok on the move, a bit like quite a good landrover. Maybe some kind of . kingpin investigation is required.

Proper "old van" on the outside, though given its age its actually quite straight and unrusty. Need to investigate what all the levers on the side of the seat do, appears none of them move the seat to anywhere near comfirtable.

All in all I reckon this is orsum. The kids have already dubbed it the Evil Van, and swmbo is clearly unimpressed, so must be good for some shite p.k.

Age? Colour? Condition? Price????? PICTURES!!!!!!!

The kids have already dubbed it the Evil Van,

Be evil then , chuck them in the back and race around the local lanes.

So, why have you bought this then. Useful for work gubbins or just "because"?

Please tell me you can just make out the Parcelforce logo on the side? :D

This is THE Autoshite question!

My ol' LDV beavertail wasn't too bad at 70mph, even when the exhaust fell off. That had keep-fit steering too. Hideously heavy when you were on a downhill turn with a load on!

Here you go Mr_Claim, a snap of it tucked up at Pog Towers.

At £250 with MoT till august it was too much to resist.

Oh my lord! I'd have happily punched you in the face to get to that first!'

Posted

hold on, doesn't it have the Transit engine and power steering as standard?

Posted

Nope, still NA pug lumps & keep fit at this age. Transit turdblowas are 99 onwards this week.

Posted

Looks like you've devalued the neighbourhood by thousands just by parking it there.

Good work

Posted

anyway more importantly does it still have metro switchgear?

Posted

Yup, metro instruments, switches etc, and interior door handles that look suspiciously like they are from a marina.

Posted

I imagine there was some overlap. Maybe not all LDV customers were ready for the 'power' of a turbo'd Tranny engine! 400s could have PAS, but mine didn't.

Posted

Yeah when I worked for BOC I had a crew cab one with the N/A Ford engine and gearbox, what a total shitter!! Think that was on an R plate.

Curiously, the V5 says it was first registered in 2003. I wonder what it was doing before that.

Frustratingly, I have also noticed that the last keeper change is after the last MoT date, despite the seller telling me all about the money he'd spent at MoT time...

It really should have PAS at that age. My Pilot did and that was a P plate as well.

Bunging MOT testers ain't cheap

Mate of mine bought an ex parcel delivery LWB LDV Sherpoid a couple of years ago. 53 or 54 plate job with just one seat and big wire mesh security grilles on the door windows. Not done big miles (about 60k ) but the diff whine in it on the motorway was unbelievable. He didn't care as it was spectacularly cheap (about £800 from the auctions) Huge inside when there's bugger all interior in 'em. Echoey too. He used to set his drum kit up in the back, bugger off to Wales, park up in the middle of a forest and play drums for hours sitting in the back of it, the mad fecker.

Ha ha, I used to drive one at work, but a 400 not the Convoy, same otherwise though, N/A Pug 2.5 so not fast!

I got sent to pick some parts up once & had'nt got enough time to get there, I held it flat to the boards on the M74 & she did an indicated 80mph, even overtaking Sprinters :D . I did lift off a touch on the downhills as the engine note changed to something unpleasent & I really did think it might go BANG!

It's not a common spec that, low roof & twin wheels (as our was)

Those old Pug-engined LDVs will actually wind up to some surprisingly high speeds if you're patient enough - they're quite high geared for an old van. Acceleration is painful though, even when empty, and overtaking dawdling Tesco lorries is a complete no-no. That does look pretty tidy for an early Convoy, and a proper bargain at that price.
