Hey, look what my local purveyor of qwality motors has up for sale.

It's not up on his webshite yet and doesn't seem overpriced like some of his stock.

He always has a random selection and usually something of shite-interest too.

If anyone is interested I'd be happy to go and have more of a nosey... From a casual glane it looks pretty minty. Be quick and beat the scenesters...

Very nice!! HPi reveals it to be a ONE owner from new. Any idea what the mileage is?

Someone on here has got to snap that up, surely?

Cut the springs!

Put some junk on the roof!

Sand the paint off!

These were rare even when new, they are a real oddity now. Lovely!

I'd use that for my daily commute, in order to remind the sheeple that a big VW wasn't always a poor man's Audi :)

I never realised we even got a Santana-badged VW, I thought they were all Passats in this country. I suppose the absolute anonymity of the thing didn't exactly sear itself into my memory banks.

Not saying I wouldn't,though.

I remember a family down my road had a maroon VW Santana in the early 90s - I think it was an 'A' or 'B' reg. As already said, they were quite a rare sight even back in the day.

Part 1 would happen for sure if I laid hands on it, the rest would stay stock. I'd keep it shiny clean and call it Carlos and we'd live happily ever after.

Those steel rims are on my favorite povvo spec wheels of evar, including those fitted to early MK3 Escort GLs.

Sweet Jesus, that's lovely  *drool*. I can't remember ever seeing one apart from in my treasured Observers book of Automobiles, 1982. And even the car in the photo was sporting those nice alloys - like this one:

so it's a surprise to see the boggo steels. Nom!

Its between my GX5 Santana and my Passat GL5 estate as the best cars I ever had- Took the Santana over to Germany, where it did a video evidenced 135mph on the speedo, and in daily use it would get nearly 40MPG. Sounded wonderful too, and never ever gave a onents trouble. My brother had a 1.8LX, and it towed a huge Bessacar caravn all over Europe, and never, ever let him down either. Brilliant cars, and I despair how the VW group have ended up. Plasticky unreliable pieces of crap.. The alloys on the GX5 were called Scala's, first used on the Santana, later on the Scirocco Scala. They are uber cool too.

I nearly bought a gold Santana back in 1995, unfortunately somebody tried to take the owners head off with a machete before money could change hands.

That blue one is supernaturally smooth though. I would. Repeatedly.

Posted

So the concensus is I should buy it then?

Erm... Can anyone lend me £795?

My Uncle has a GX5 one of these. GR16 car, chopped in for a mark 2 Golf valver. Noice, that blue one.

Good call. 8) They are a nice design. Also like the steelies on the 8 valve mark II Golf GTi s, Drivers and Ryders. :)

It'll probably end up costing you the same as a new Phaeton but think of the shite kudos!

Ooof, that's a later injected one- mine was a earlier carb one. I've had an automatic GL5 Passat and really didn't like it- the auto box isn't the best. Manuals are very long legged. and far more economical.

Right. And this pic is an evidence of crime in case of letting a real good car die! This is a very rare 1984 GL5 2,0E complete with the full chrome glory and even the (expensive) sunroof. Possibly equipped with the 4+E manual box which suits the car very well. What a sad picture!
