I forgot all about Geoff "Capri", The bloke is a total legend and a true shitter, He built it back in the late 70's and has travelled all over Europe diplaying it at shows.

There is one thing about these 70s and 80s Kustoms , Wether you like them or hate them they were all INDIVIDUAL , Very little of this Halfords off the shelf shit , just people doing what they thought might be different and look good , I cant knock anyone for that , at least they tried .

I've seen some roof chops recently but I can't remember the last time I saw a jacked up rear end. Seems the trend has gone full circle to slamming as low as possible.

From the prodigious Andy Saunders. Wanky or inspired? You decide.

+1 on the 70s stuff, I remember several of these from the contemporary mags. I even saw some of them at the odd show (maybe one a year, unlike the much more frequent "classic" shows I go to now). I never quite got the idea of jacking up the back end, although obviously showing off your work-of-art axle was a good thing. I'm sure somewhere I have a photo of the Allegro estate, and possibly the SYB Mini, both of which were fairly well-known 33 years ago (ish).

Just to establish my credentials: been there, and yes...

^...I still have the T shirt! It doesn't fit me now, alas, so I scanned it in the hope of making a transfer I could use on a new shirt, but I'm not happy with it. How on earth do I get the proportions right, I wonder? Constructive suggestions welcome, as I really would like to have a "new" Leeds Cruise shirt!

HotCarA40-vi.jpg

^Scanned from an old Copy of Hot Car. Eek!

^I saw this in Las Vegas last March, but I've seen others on previous trips, it seems to be a big thing over there. I call them "cartoon wheels" because they look like they would be a pain to drive.

A35van-vi.jpg

^This one I really like, actually. It belongs to a young lad who's very active on the A35 forum; Angry Dicky will know immediately who I mean. Apart from the tyres I applaud him, it's lovely.

^A friend sent me a print of this, so I scanned it. Home-built and none the worse for that.

PurpleHearse-vi.jpg

^Er, yeah. I can't help thinking if I had a 1967 Cadillac hearse (OMG yes please!) it wouldn't look like this. Found on the internet by an A40 club buddy.

I have 28 issues of Street Machine just begging to be scanned in, the readers rides section was always a laugh. MKII Granada rear lights were often put onto cars just for the heck of it, even a Simca of some sort wasn't safe.

Anyway, heres some I scanned in a while back.

This tasteful pickup (six wheels was awesome back then) lasted a mere 9 months after this was published.

Seems to have been painted with the then BP Livery in mind, dead by 1984.

Heres two classic Kustoms I have seen recently.

OOoh! Ooh! Suits me sir! Did you want to stretch it sir? Did you? Would you like extra seating sir? What a bloody gorgeous Thames, and what a shame it died so quickly. Still, one man's hard work is another man's waste of time. I wonder how many of Andy Saunders' cars survive? I do hope his Reliant boat does.

Your arse is that gorgeous? My oh my.... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder etc. I liked it. Didn't think much of the colour, but it was forgivable in view of the style.
