cms206 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Never a big fan of the 'extended' bumper design on these Rovers. OT: My dad had those wheeltrims on his Proton... ain't seen a set for feckin ages!
KruJoe Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I quite like the Bluebirds' vent in the back quarter. And the tail pipe detail on those Civics. But I'm with SL on the BX and 240 estate back doors. A gripe of mine... Daihatsu seemingly made LWB Miras, but without thinking it necessary to move the back axle rearwards: These are on leaf springs, so it's not as though the wheels swing back and up like a 2CV.Would it really have hurt so much to push it back an inch or two? A 'shorter' one for comparison: Much neater, don't you think?
Rusty Pelican Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Number plates above the rear lights really grates me , take this crock of shit as an example And car badges that read backwards , at least the Citroen Saxo says just that , Fords always had stuff the other way around , so Escort Ford instead of Ford Escort , petty but there you are . Backwards badging complete with a crappy spoiler , another thing I hate
retrogeezer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Good thread... I hate how lazy MG Rover just moulded a bit into the front bumper to fill the gap where the indicators were on the older models...looks like one of those wanky front bumpers boy racers fit to the Corsas (or that one that was on Billy's Escort Cab) The Rover 75/MG ZT never had indicators mounted in that space between the outside headlight and wing you find so offensive. Maybe so, but the 25/200 or whatever it was did and the wings on ALL of them certainly look to be designed as if it should have.....in fact, I'd put money on the fact it probably was and they changed it at the last minute to fit in with an 'update' on the 75/ZT Come on, it looks awful:
KruJoe Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Top thread, H. BL should have tried harder with the lights on these, especially the oh-so-crap reverse light/reflector combo, and the fog light.Rubbish. Didn't stop me having three of 'em though. No wonder so many owners try to do something to improve the job. And the external seams... that's just lazy on a car still being sold 10 years ago.
dollywobbler Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Wipers that leave a triangle at the top of the screen. Peugeot 306/406, Citroen Xantia, Ford Mondeo Mk1, Focus Mk1. SORT IT OUT! I'm sure that's just down to really lazy design. Mind you, I'd rather have a nice pantograph wiper, as fitted to the TR7, Stag, Lancia Thema and rear of a Porka 928.
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 BL should have tried harder with the lights on these, especially the oh-so-crap reverse light/reflector combo, and the fog light.Rubbish. The fog light is shite, mine seems to need fixing every MOT. But the numberplate lamp bothers me. Why is it so big? A carriage clock wouldn't look out of place on that thing.
j-j Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 What's wrong with me? I find these shite features pretty quaint - especially the Volvo rear door thing that I noticed in primary school. Fack, I see stuff like this all the time and can't think of ANY!
j-j Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Dammit! still can't think of one! Maybe the fake window- lines on some modern cars if only I could recall what blimmin car(s) I saw it on.
Guest Leonard Hatred Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Maybe so, but the 25/200 or whatever it was did and the wings on ALL of them certainly look to be designed as if it should have.....in fact, I'd put money on the fact it probably was and they changed it at the last minute to fit in with an 'update' on the 75/ZT Come on, it looks awful Well, that's just what they did, facelift the 200 and 400 in line with the 75's styling. It hardly look awful, it's a tiny barely noticeable detail - they've even changed the profile of the wing to disguise it, it's not like they've left a Rover 200 headlight shape. I could understand it a bit more if you said Rover 45, they look a bit wonky with their quad oval headlights and wing indicator.
worldofceri Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Most of these little quirks don't annoy me and some are quite endearing however, for some reason, I find the rear door and C-pillar treatment on the early 5-door Almera highly offensive. I think this is the only car I would never own purely because it looks so shit.
j-j Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Dammit! still can't think of one! Maybe the fake window- lines on some modern cars if only I could recall what blimmin car(s) I saw it on.To follow up on what I meant here! Fake window lines: where the apparent side window area is exaggerated versus the real window area/shape Lexus GS This isn't the one I'm thinking of though ! I can't recall what the one in mind actually is. It's something more recent than the GS, the 'fake' bit of window area is pointier.. The rear window of some crappy, trendy wee cabrio thing I was behind of late had a 'BIG' rear window but looking at it, a quarter from each end was actually blackened out pillar, making the window a narrow wee scope.. again, cant faggin recall what it was on, maybe a VX or Pug cabrio version of a small VX/Pug.
j-j Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Crappy cabrio with fake rear glass size.. could it be this? it doesn't seem as bad in this pic but it was something like that What's the Vauxhall thing like this^
kinkersaab Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 most if not all of these elec folding tin top cars, in order for it to have one, the arse end must resemble Vannessa feltz, and the windcreen needs to rake back too sharply and for a good bit further than could ever look right.
dollywobbler Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 BX estate J-J? Of course, the BX estate suffers from fake glass (side windows AND tailgate) and hatchback rear doors because it is actually a conversion performed by Heuliez.
j-j Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 ^^seriously fake-O window area on BX estate^^ Of course you knw I'd still hit it!
Pete-M Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Urrgh. Just look at it. They got everything wrong.
CIH Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Pillarless doors with sharp triangle edgs atop the door mirrors. Nearly had my eye out on several occasions. Also, "keyless" entry with nowhere to put the key. Wounds me up no end. I sit there, usually with the customer watching, and I'm totally at a loss as to what to do with the key.I really hate folding roof cars as they're almost always a really strange shape with the roof up. All cab forward-y.
chaseracer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Fake window lines: where the apparent side window area is exaggerated versus the real window area/shape... Not just cars...
KruJoe Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 That's a bit harsh on the Vectra Pete! It wouldn't be in my top ten, but at least they put some effort into doing something interesting with the mirrors.
dollywobbler Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Can't agree Pete. The Vectra estate is a most attractive thing. The hideous fake plastic wood of the posh ones, and everything else are valid reasons for complaint though.
Guest Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I have allways loved the 70's Jaguar XJ6/XJ12 cars.Look at those lines - beautifull. Then came the series 3 with the rear pillars that spoiled it
KruJoe Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Hey, that "window" treatment is a carbon copy of the good old Midi: They looked a lot better without the blacking - it was a much more interesting shape.
Formula Autos Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 The way the back bumper on these seems too low in comparison with the front really winds me up for some reason. It just doesn't seem 'right', especially as in this model a wonky side rubbing strip was used to try and disguise it. Hard to find a picture that conveys this well, but walk round one of these and you'll see what I mean. These headlights look crap to me as well, especially as prior to this TVRs were handsome brutes. Wot were they finkin? Just RONG!
Timewaster Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Saggy sills. That strange droopy swage line. Octavia heater controls down infront of the gear lever. Take your eyes off the road to turn the heat down.Worst part of the whole car. Those number plate lights. Worst grill evar! Also, the top of the window on the Transits above.
Guest Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Ruined byNasty chunk of metal nailed to rear panel and naff bumpers
chaseracer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Honest, I'm not fixated on early C21 vans - but JEEEZUSS!! someone was at the absinthe hard when they "designed" this: What the hell is that lump in the roof over the seats? Does the average French workman wear a top hat these days?
retrogeezer Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Maybe so, but the 25/200 or whatever it was did and the wings on ALL of them certainly look to be designed as if it should have.....in fact, I'd put money on the fact it probably was and they changed it at the last minute to fit in with an 'update' on the 75/ZT Come on, it looks awful Well, that's just what they did, facelift the 200 and 400 in line with the 75's styling. It hardly look awful, it's a tiny barely noticeable detail - they've even changed the profile of the wing to disguise it, it's not like they've left a Rover 200 headlight shape. Formula Autos Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 The Clouseau 'tache added to the first Megane when it was facelifted always seemed too high up to me. An inch or two lower would probably have lined it up nicely with the top of the headlights.
Guest Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Can't believe I forgot about this one. The alignment of the front and rear door handles on the 5-door Corsa B - the back door handle is about an inch lower. If you haven't noticed it before, you will now.
