I have one of those tape boxes yet, lurking under the bookcase. And two Speccys. Want a Phillips Roller all over again!

I was 12 then. Now I'm 37; is that just a bit weird, or have I just not grown up yet?

Check out those stereos. Any of them would look great in a 1975-85 car. I'd go for the Pye with the digital tuner for the 1977 Volvo 245 GL estate I'd surely own (a well-used £1295 ono high-mileage bargain from Exchange & Mart) if I was the age I am now in 1985 :D

Cheers Pog, looks like a few others may have missed it too! :D

I, ahem, bought one of these too. Being bored at work with eBay access is seriously dangerous, and I keep searching for Maserati Biturbos for sale for small change. I seem intent on ruining my own life.

I'd love to be a salesman, battle to win a meeting with a huge potential customer, and arrive, late, in this:

And attempt my sales presentation using a 48K ZX Spectrum packed neatly inside a Purpax carry case.

"180 quid for a 14" colour telly? You're not getting that for Christmas!"

Seriously though, it does show how the price of electric goods has come down in relation to salaries. You can get a 20" LCD now for less than that I daresay. And a lot of items are the same price now as they were then, drills for example.

CPTC

I googled the name, and a Dr. Mike Smith was Argos chief executive when that catalogue came out. I don't know if that was his catalogue but it seems an awful coincidence if not.

I found a Spring 1989 Kays catalogue in a charity shop last year - I should maybe have bought it but the old ladies may have thought I was getting it for the women' s lingerie pages  !

CPTC is a Sierra Mk1 with those iconic 'aero' wheelcovers.
