Mum never lets him forget the year he came home with a very sad looking Christmas tree.

Agreed, and a Woolworths where you could buy a quarter (Ib) of fresh salted peanuts in a small, open greaseproof paper bag then pester parents for an advance on pocket money to buy a Matchbox toy.  I can remember them being 1/3d at first, rising to 1/11d a few years later.

Apart from the colours. Black , white and fifty shades of grey. The photo wouldn’t be vastly different in colour.

Is that luggage in the back of the Thames 400e

No, I think he’s a fly tipper with an old sofa in the back.

Unfortunately the station closed in 1967. Bar the clock tower to it was demolished. It was replaced by these beautiful* buildings with the council owned tower block flats being somewhat notorious. The hotel on the right in the old pic survives and at least on the exterior remains largely unchanged.

The Victoria Shopping Centre (known locally as "the Vic- or Vicky- Centre) has always given me the hebejebbies due to its size & busyness. I continue to avoid going in whenever possible.

Taco Bell anyone?

I know, more than one picture....

The remains of the outside parts of the station fascinated me as kid and up to about 20 years ago as a massive cutting remained in the middle of Nottingham. It was this hole*, of course completely stripped of anything railway related bar the boarded up tunnel entrance

Never knew it had a turntable!

15-20 years ago the hole was redeveloped...
