Thanks for your support, TAYNE, you really are a dip shit, did you get picked on at school? or were you the school bully. ALBERT ROSS, I dont think your brain is as big as your head put your brain in gear before you open your mouth you twat. WATANABE, the only thing you want to be is more grown up, prick. And thanks to all the other comments that were posted. I have been a member of Autoshite for some years but no more, most of the members are great guys but the named members above were acting like bullys, with a few of there freinds,I can take a joke as well as the next man but they went to far, and why did I get this shit? for trying to do some good.So thanks a lot.

Strangely, I don't find myself saying the words out loud as I type. I am capable of reasoned argument. I can also punctuate, spell, and make myself understood, without recourse to profanities. Yes, I may choose to use them sometimes, but I find it a little base to be perfectly honest.

I do appreciate that you think there was a bit of mickey taking. I think I can shed a little light onto why it happened. You were attempting to organise something to do some good. In your haste to "get numbers", you forgot the most important thing. Location. It's no good expecting me, with a 40 year old Land Rover Diesel, to undertake a 200 mile journey each way, to "drive around for a bit" in order to offer money to a charity. That would be very nearly 500 miles, at 22mpg, it's no joke. It's close on £100 in fuel alone. I would derive more joy maintaining my vehicle, and popping 20 quid in the next poppy jar I see. I wouldn't need to book accommodation, I wouldn't need to put unnecessary miles on the clock, I wouldn't risk a breakdown many miles from home.

I wonder how many people who didn't "jump on the bandwagon", also thought you were a touch vague with your request? I wonder if people who have large engined cars, capalbe of possibly mid teens MPG, were put off by the possibility of a similar journey. If you do try to do this next time. herre's a suggestion for the format of your initial opening question.

"Hi, I'm considering doing a classic car run in the spring. I know we are all spread around the world on here, but I was thinking of finding out if people would be interested to have a run to a museum, or something like, and try for sponsorship to raise money for charity. (Here's the most important bit) Obviously, location is EVERYTHING, so would it be an idea to have multiple start points and meet at say Gaydon, or Birmingham Science Museum? they are reasonably central to most of us. If these locations don't suit, would anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking of doing it on the weekend of May 8th, next year, the week after the Royal Wedding.

There. I've put it nicely. In more words than I used last time. I reckon that was a fairly reasoned response. See what you think.

Handbags at dawn!

Thank you for your post today Albert, i will try to get my point over to you. The car runs we did to start with were to top up the money for the Norfolk mile of triumphs, people then asked me to set up a car run to help the soldiers hospital. the post I wrote was to let people know ther would be a car run in 2011, it was ment as a ,watch this space type thing. I have had a lot of people from the car shows and clubs we are in say, yes we will do it. the reason we said you can take part in any car was because this will help raise the money for the soldiers. I know people wont drive miles and miles to take part, but we can not give more details at this point,it was just to say there will be a car run. the thing is the comments went from the car run to a personal attack on me thank you for your post today, if you had put it like that last night we could have had a nice chat about it, and who knows ,you could have helped,me with it.

58CC You should really stick with an age limit on the cars if your planning on a fun run, There isn't much fun in watching a 100 or so Mondeos and Golf's in a convoy, I'd personally would thinbk twice about going on a run if it was full of moderns, why not stick a age limit of 20 years or older or something?.

I'll have the Panhard please.

Normally I'd be right behind you, but that one's got disc brakes and I prefer the finned drums that stick right through the wheels.

Most of the cars will be classic,The runs we did before took place in october, many people said yes we will come but if it rains could we use are everyday cars other than cancel.the point is to see freinds and have a good day out and raise some money for the soldiers at the same time. I have freinds who are doing the run on trikes and bikes.I have letters from people thanking me for a good day out after the first run.we dont race round, we stopped at pubs, cafes and anywhere that we liked on the way round. we take part in other runs and we all get on well.

Apologies for going slightly off topic but does an oil burning Landy get through a gallon every 22 miles Mr Ross?

Hate to appear ignorant in such matters but have always fancied an aged Land Rover, :P

Man that would be awesome. We could all get our best grey coats, shuffle off like sheep to take a picture of a Lanos, and occasionally shout at the driver for going over 50mph on the motorway

58CC. Back for more I see. I was actually going to give the old forum lark a rest for a bit as I was clearly getting a bit highly strung.

However, you made it personal (again) so I'll pop back round and say my piece. Like Albert, I've let my missiles off now, so I will retort and disappear again.

So, it's in Norfolk is it? Useful information. I have family in Norfolk. Thank you for the update, a soldiers' whip round in old tat is indeed a worthy cause and in a shite friendly format.

However, if you recall I wished you well with your event [piss taking over with], and you told me to go and fuck myself. Is this a case of the kettle calling the racist or is my mate chinny just stroking on, do you think?

Can you see what's missing? I can, but I don't think I'll get one.

I could converse with you over this in a more adult and eloquent manner, but I'm afraid I can't be bothered. Without wishing to start another expletive filled slanging match, I still don't understand why you couldn't have got the basics of the event together and then posted a thread with all the salient details in. None of my shite is particularly economical (unless you want to see a filthy C4 trundling across the Broads) so my concerns mirrored Albert's.

So, for the second time - I wish you well with your event. Come back with all the details [when you have them] and we will let you know. If you want to tell us, of course.

It's a Long'un. 1760 kg of your finest pig iron, aircraft grade aluminium, glass and rubber. Add to that the power sapping transmission, tyre drag,( knobblies take more effort to turn) and body drag, roofrack, double skinned roof, the roiginal 62hp engine,a dn then you start to see what I am on about. Around town, you're never in a high gear, so low MPG. On a cross country B road, you never seem to get into overdrive. On "fast" A roads, you can't go too fast, it's like trying to drive the Cutty Sark in a hurricane. So 45-50 is about top speed for sensibility's sake. Un-servoed single circuit drum brakes mean big gaps, (which BMWs and Golfs seem to want to fill) The need to take a run at a hill, (Never possible as the twunt in the BMW or Golf has just removed that gap from you) unless you want to drop into 3rd and crawl up at 22.... The petrols are similarly economical, but burn more round town. The diesels just don't keep up with modern traffic so well. I'm not grumbling. Road tax is free, insurance is £135 a year. Just long distances are a nightmare. Doncaster-Ipswich takes something like 5 hours including a comfort break.... You can see why travelling great distances can get wearing. If I wanted a fast economical car, I would buy a Focus. Oh. I did.....! They're alright really, just an acquired taste.

Fugg me this is the first time I have ever wanted to walk away from AS.

58 Classics DID NOT deserve such a drubbing from the more established members of the board. Yes he was vague , yes you took the piss a little but it should not have gone this far.

Likewise 58classics should have walked away from this childish behaviour before now.
