Thanks Guys,

Yeah the Escort is an ex bt car,my uncle bought it direct from them when it was a couple of years old,he then sold it to my Grandad (on the other side of my family) and when my Grandad died i got left it in his will and we got her going after 4 years laid up and now my friend in Brighton runs her everyday . .

Actually she keeps getting notes left on it asking whether she will sell it lol . .

I was thinking all i need now is mark 1 Fiesta,Hillman avenger and an FSO Polonez . . . lol

But if i purchased said cars I WOULD PROBABLY GET SHOT!!!

Does anyone have a Polonez incidently?

cheers

Oh Redsparrow,

Sorry i missed your post . .

As far as how many Allegro estates are left we are not entirely sure

There is roughly about 900 Allegros left that we know of (could be loads locked up in garages pre SORN)

and we think there is probably about 200 estates???

That is a bit of a guess but there were more saloons made than estates as saloons started officially in 1973 and estates started production in 1975

There are always loads of saloons for sale but not many estates come up for sale mainly because when you have a good one you hang on to it as they are very practical

Next year i am taking over the south thames group of the Allegro club organising events in sussex and kent

So anyone that has an allegro down south that isn't a member come join and show your car off at the shows!! 8)

cheers

Was it difficult to find parts for the Citroen?

Posted

Hi ya Mate,

Actually the Citroen GSA has been the easiest for finding parts!

It is being restored up in Hitchin near Luton by a company called chevronics and he specialises in Citroen GS and GSA's,he once a year takes trips to France to source spares ,he also has had things like floor pan repair sections re-made specifically for his customers cars

I have trouble finding parts for Allegros mainly front body panels lol

What a fabulous collection, congratulations! Love the Chrysler Alpine and the rapidly improving GSA. Is that green Cit an Ami 6 behind the engine?

Don't think you'll have much luck with a Polonez, my dad used to have a brown W reg one when they had just came out; nice interior but dire car really.

Posted

Hi Ya,

Yes the back end is an Ami 6 with the sloping rear window like the Anglia, that car is very nice as it has been restored some years ago!

Yeah i thought the chances of getting a Polonez are near zero

Most people i have spoken too about those have said they really are hatefull things??

I would love to have a go in one and see for myself though . . lol

cheers

GSA looks really cool stripped bare, as 'new'.

I look forward to more pics.

Legend!

I was only wondering if we had you on here already when I saw the PC featurette. Awesome collection, love the Chrysler Alpine and GSA.

Cheers Guys!

Thanks for the comments!

It feels like therepy on here lol,the only difference is nobody is telling me not to buy more cars lol

Although i was looking through Ebay and looked under FSO Polonez and of course there are no vehicles for sale unfortunately

BUT there is one in Edinburgh in a scrap yard . . .

It got me thinking whether he might sell it complete?

But then what happens if it's completely knackered??

Where would you get bits for it?

cheers

Here's an odd thought (ok, OT but..)

Pog is referencing "Roger's Profanisaurus" from viz, many viz ideas seem to be (sensibly enough) tyneside based. I remember that in my youth, a favourite saturday activity was to race up the coast road from the Corner House crossroads to see who could reach Billy Mill first. 20 odd years on, I look back and think that it's a reasonable analogy.

Cheers Mate,

God what is it?,i am presuming it's a Lancia?,gamma??

Love it what ever it is 8)

I bet they are worth a bit now Mate !?

I know my Alfasud is going up in price,

I think that anything italian in good condition nowadays is worth a bit mainly because they have survived this long and NOT dropped to the floor in a pile of rust lol

Do you know whos car that is in the pcture?

cheers

The Spud looks like a Series 3 Ti................................?

Very well spotted Rev! :D

Yeah she is a 1983 Alfa romeo Alfasud 1.5ti green cloverleaf

She is in pretty good order, had a fair amount of work carried out on it over the few years

she going to be woken up soon and sorted out to be sold on as i am hoping to use said funds to pay the GSA resto off, trouble is she needs a fair bit of money thrown at her to get her going like alloys refurb, tyres, fuel line and thats without putting through an MOT

one saving grace though is she is pretty solid :D

cheers

Just to feed your Polonez fetish, Richie...

The nearest red one was mine, the other was my Dad's; 86 and 88 respectively. Ignore the Audi...

This one is in the yard of a garage in Cyprus, and used to be a rally car. It even still has the roll cage...

And this one used to be a rental! Hasn't been used for several years, I have my eye on this...

The Polonez is awful: slow, clumsy, badly-built and heavy. If judged by the standards of similar-sized cars available when it was launched in the UK (1977 IIRC). But you have to remember it's only really a reskin of an early-60s Fiat, and then it doesn't look so bad. Lower your sights and you'll find it's roomy, comfortable and capable. I love 'em!

Superb collection! I was admiring it on Practical Classics. Your orange Alpine is first class, I'd absolutely love to see one again.

On the subject of Polonez's, I still have a plastic badge with one on it that I was given at the Scottish Motor Show in about 1989! My pal had a 5-year old one to use as a yard car in 1994. F525 USX was its number plate. I remember it was a basic one with the oblong lights and no third window. It was also quite fast!

Thanks Iain!

Nice of you to say Mate!

I am hoping to get her back on the road soon . .

Once the Citroen is sorted and back on the road (as that is my priority at the moment)

I am hoping next year to really blitz both the Alpines and get at least one of the two back on the road . . .

Eddy,

Those pics are wicked!!

I am so glad i am not out on a limb here liking FSO Polonez'

I know they dire and as my friend said "hatefull things" but that makes me like them even more!!

Every car i own has a major flaw,if it wasn't known as a rust bucket or understeered badly or has a rattly engine then i probably wouldn't have been interested!

It is completely mental i know but expensive, flash, big /performance cars do not appeal to me ,i like the underdog!

I would love to know how many Polonez' have survived?

I wonder if there is like a proper club?,i joined the forum but that really is shite, nobody goes on there!!!

Oh the pics of the white polonez Mate ,where were they taken by the way?

If you look on Ebay there is a blue one for spares only (FSO wheel nuts) in Scotland.

I was so tempted to email the seller and say how much for the whole car but i have nowhere to put it and i would prefer one that is going /on the road really lol

cheers

Richie: the two white ones I posted are over here, in Paphos. I've been within touching distance of both today! :D I know what you mean about liking the unwanted cars, after my first Lada I understood that way of thinking and have applied it many times. By the way, I have it "from the horse's mouth:" a Polonez makes a very good rally car! Mmm, and I know where to get parts... I've been looking at a Mk1 Cortina as my next project (always have an eye on the next project) but that ex-rental Polo-neck is calling me...

This Allegro started off life in my neck of the woods, the 'FD' part being an olde Dudley registration.

My first car when I was 14 was a blue 'R' reg Allegro estate. We bought it for £25 and sold it for scrap for £20 a year later. It had black velour seats and an electric aerial!

That looks lush :D

Just been looking at an old issue of practical classics, they did an endangered species feature on the Polonez in Aug 2008 claiming 16 left on UK roads.

Looks great - I'm annoyed I can't remember what our GS Break looked like inside, apart from the black vinyl seats and the yellowish Philips radio between the front seats. I spent most of the time asleep in the boot or lying flat on my back on the back seat, looking at the sky/lamp posts etc...
