I did drive one many years ago, Don't you have to start them with your foot on the clutch?.

So someone was on the trailer playing word games?

a fair bit of interest already.. thanks. there seem to be more down south than up here in tyne and wear, so parts mostly panels are a real pain to source. mines in white and i have been told the ge model is the rarest of these cars. dealers dont stock much in the way of parts (i guess theres hardly an interest) Any help will be much appreciated.

Not in my experience; that was Hyundais. We replaced our Proton 1.3MPI with a Lantra Estate and the clutch thing got me at the first petrol station  ditto using the right key (had to be the one with the transponder thing in). Here's the Proton, with my 1979 Cadillac and 1983 Metro:

Surprisingly I don't appear to have a pic of the Hunday, I must have one somewhere. Our Proton was Willow Green, by the way, and was a bloody good little car. Mrs Ramrod loved it to bits and was devastated when a local numpty smashed it up for her.

Prot66h, welcome aboard. I think you'll find you are at home here!

There's loads still about. Have you tried getting parts from Mitsubishi, they are pretty much 75% Lancers.

Welcome! The GE model is the DHSS spec one isn't it? Lovely!

if i could get the panels i need in white from an old lancer or proton then i would probably get rid of the other car i have garaged would save on all the fuss of bodyshops and spraying. the car i own is in fair/good condition and with the right time and patience could be made a very good example. its just how far i want to take it really as money dictates. The other car (metallic blue saloon1.5 gl 92 reg) is rough but complete bar rear passenger side quarter glass. That car may be moved on if i can get the white panels,or as someone mentioned (not on here) it could be banger raced. No way Is that happening. Id rather the car went for spares or repair,as ive already mentioned the parts (bodywise) are hard to get.

Welcome, prot66h. :D

Proton 1.3 GE had the half-vinyl/half-fabric seats, iirc. Quite liked the steel wheels on those and loved the rotating knobs in place of the indicator stalks. :)

Would have made a great first car for new driversbut I believe that they suffered with being in high insurance groups.

I think someone on here used to work for the import concessionaire back in the day??

Kicking myself for not noticing this earlier... Are you sure about that engine, prot? 1.3cc is model-aircraft-size, surely? I'm certain the Proton I drove for nearly four years was 1.3 litres... No harm done, but this is something that really kicks my eye when it's in the small-ads. Ok, pedantry over, normal service can resume (if anything round here can be described as normal, that is!).

Cheers for all the replys and pisstaking!!! all in good nature i trust!! I bought her for a £100 quid just over three years ago, so lets say ive had more than my moneys worth. When You think what some people spend on monthly payments on new cars and all that crap, am sure most folk on here would rather tinker away on thier older cars. No having to fuss on with diagnostics ,and all other stuff related to modern cars.

yeah thats right!! The ge was the base model. Not sure how the insurance group worked with these, though they are easy to break into.

My dad had a white 1.3GLS saloon with suave gold coachlines and GLS on the rear wings. Awesome car, boot was full of water most of the time (much like those Top Gear tested), but it went well and had all sorts of bizarre switchgear. H346 XDS it was, died pretty young IIRC. There was a gorgeous dark gunmetal grey coloured saloon on an F-reg kicked about here for a while, but it disappeared shortly after my dad had to get rid of H346. I still quite fancy one, but always thought the MPi and the Aerobacks looked shit. Would have to be a saloon...

yeah everyone seems to favour the saloons. I had a silver saloon for five years prior to the one i have now H266 DCU gave it to some kids to work on at a college in gateshead, and every now and then i punch the reg in on the internet and it still comes back as being active. So who know it might still be on the road. Thanks for the reply :D
