After selling my Audi coupe I was on the lookout for a new car, but wanted something a bit faster as the coupe was a 2.0 8 valve with a whopping 115bhp. I loved the colour of it and after lots of VAG cars it was my first Audi. I fancied a TT for a while as they look like great value! I am a sucker for a nice/rare/bright colour so didn't want a silver or black one.

A search of a Audi tt MK1 Facebook group found an ad for this car from a couple months ago. A few messages were sent back and forth. The owner wasn't actively trying to sell it but would sell for the right price.

I was going to do a collection thread but totally failed, maybe next time!

I got a train from Plymouth to Leeds and then had a 5 hour drive back on Saturday just gone.

First impressions are that it's great! Fastest car I have owned being a 225bhp version.  It's been lowered and the suspension is pretty firm but I'm ok with that as I would have probably lowered it anyway!

Took it to a car meet on the Sunday and got a couple cool pics of it already.

A few things to do on it but it's really clean for a 2003 car!

jeez that's lovely.  I really didn't like the mk1 TT when it came out but it looks mega now, and a great colour

Don’t see many of these in actual colours other than red, that looks ace!

Loved my 225.

It was too thirsty for my wife to cut about in daily and rudimentary back seats eventually made me sell it.

Make replacing the oil pickup your first job!

+1 on the pickup if no record of it being done.

I liked mine. They don't handle that well around the corners. My Boxster (competitor at the time) ran rings around it (not just because it didn't have traction control). But very comfy tourers and I think the styling has aged well.

Thanks, there is loads of history with it, but no record of the oil pick up pipe so it's high on my list of things to do!

I had the v6/dsg. Paid about £1400 and was pleasantly suprised by how  nice it was for the money.

This looks lovely. I really liked my MK1 TT,  it was only the lack of room in the back that made me sell it.

I'm really surprised these haven't gone mental price-wise. I honestly expected them to be big money by now.

I tried to sit in the back of it the other day, and failed! 🤣 But I have an Octavia estate if I want to take passengers. Or anything sizeable in the boot!

There are still lots of TTs about, but there are also a lot being broken for spares. I have seen prices range from £500 to £13000.  Hopefully if I keep this one nice it might even appreciate a bit!

I loved the original TT and think its a better looking car than the Mk2 version. I especially liked that blue grey colour you could get them in.

I was only in my early twenties when they came out so I had a Calibra Turbo instead, but these are now the nearest equivalent i.e.  c. 200hp, 6 speed, 4wd, DTM heritage.

Didn't even know they did them in that colour. That's lush.

Sisters 225 - her company car that she bought when the lease was up and owned for about 15 years - she racked up nearly 270k in it - never let her down (she did have a habit of locking the keys in it miles from home though !)

yours looks fantastic in blue

A couple pics from last night. 1 of them shows the colour in the sun, but it also shows the awful reverse light someone fitted... That will be going soon!

They are great cars - not spectacular at anything, but a pleasure to own, drive and enjoy. Good ones are getting rarer as well.

I had the 3.2 DSG which sounded great, but wasn't a great deal quicker than the 1.8T which is a lot easier to get more power from.image.jpeg.9d3e34805705bfb43bfc66e5cecfaf51.jpeg

A few watch outs:

  • They like to lock themselves when you least want it - always keep a spare key handy.
  • The alarm module/sounder is in the boot and often gets flaky with age/damp
  • Headlights cloud up for fun - it gets to be an annual task and removing /refitting them from the car is a horrid job
  • Sills rot from both ends - they are bolt on covers, but usually the inner sills rot at he same time which kills off a lot of cars.
  • Beware cheap Chinesium tuning and engine electrical parts such as dump valves, N17, cone filters, etc- they are almost always shit

I saw my old car this evening, had to get a pic of them both together! The new owner is really happy with it still thankfully

Down by Chaplains?

Yes mate, about half a mile from my house! Couldn't believe it when my old car drove past, and we were both headed to Aldi!
