Bob Wilkinson's scrapyard

I was looking through some old video tapes and came across a programme from 1991 about classic cars. A scrapyard owned by a Bob Wilkinson was featured. He seemed like an interesting character and the scrapyard was huge.

 

Does anyone know anything about Bob or the scrapyard? Is he/it still around?

It was right next to the railway station in North Hykeham, Lincoln. Not there anymore. I remember getting Rover P4 diffs off him, for a Land Rover Hi-ratio conversion, and Standard Vanguard tail lamps. He had Isettas, Fiat 600s, all sorts in there.

Oh my fucking God. This was that Channel 4 series Classic Cars wasn't it? Do you have the whole series on tape?

Ah, you made me dig out my DVD. I only kept two episodes - the one featuring The Patrick Collection and Bob Wilkinson's epic scrapyard.

 

He says that he hopes he'll get time to sort it all out - I hope he did!

Thanks chaps. Is Bob still alive, he was quite old at the time the programme was made and that was nearly 20 years ago.

 

The programme was indeed Classic Cars. As well as the Bob episode, I think I have one about two fellas who imported US classics to sell them in the UK.

Blitz, I think this yard clearance pre-dates the big Chinese scrap metal vortex that sucked up scrap from the entire globe.

I went there with my camera at the beginning of 1996.

 

I took the piccies from the road and the station platform. I got some in RIP in Practical Classics. Brian Cox sent me a tenner. I think.

Lockerbie plane is at Roger Windley's Tattershall, Lincs. Google earth is your friend. There is what looks to be a Blue Ferrari 400 shell near the fence too....

Seen those photos. Family are from Langholm. There was luggage on the streets etc at the time. Scary shit.

There used to be a scrapyard between 'Ull and Beverley I used to go to and nick stuff from which was full of 60's and 70's chod. It got emptied in the mid to late 90's. Does anyone have any photos of it. Could not afford camera film in those days as spent all my money on drink drugs and Imps.

 

Was in a Farina 3rd up on a pile and it fell off. To this day i dont know how i got out. I remember it starting to fall and the next thing i know it was on the floor. and the car was lying next to me. Scary monkeys.

There was another epic scrapyard in Holbeach St.John (Lincolnshire) owned by an old Boy (John Wright). It was right on the edge of an airfield and had some amazing stuff. Trouble was, despite putting the house and yard up for sale to emigrate, he was talking silly drugs money for everything. I tried to buy a couple of cars but he was just asking telephone numbers. A nice guy and a real character, but completely out of touch with what stuff was actually worth.

Can you actually see it on GE ? I had a quick look to fullfill a morbid curiosity but can't really make it out.

You can but bear in mind its in about a billion pieces so is just a load of white scrap metal.
