Mine is showing around 300 flat cold

115 around 60c

65 at running temp of 82c

So mine, from the internetz advice is correct I guess!

That's measured from the spanner flat to the pin.

Fantastic. At least I know what the issue is now. Thanks a lot!

Well I went back for the showroom experience today and collected the new sensor. The temp gauge is now functional again. Thanks for your help @Volksy.

With a spring in my step I set about fitting the clips and door trim.

Had to nick the end fixing off another door for the time being. I'll have a go at modelling a replacement for the 3D printer.

The temperature sensor? I'm used to diesel's which are generally quite difficult to cook. With this having had OMGHGF in the past the lack of gauge was a bit unnerving. It actually seemed to run surprisingly cool when driving around. I had to leave it to idle for a while before it got up to that temperature.

The expansion tank is cracked. Presumably from over pressurising in the past. I'm not sure whether the fact that the system isn't really pressurised is affecting the running temps?

Soon find out. There's a second hand one winging it's way to me via Evri.

The temp guage was fine for me - or appeared to be - until it cooked.  I meant the door trim!

You might have a stuck thermostat, mine did when I got it - along with a weeping waterpump - so I replaced the lot.

Mine gets up to 82° and will stay there all day. It only has an engine driven cooling fan.

Oil pressure seems improved after a change, sitting at 2 bar at 80 degrees. We'll see what it's like once properly hot this week.

What a bastard that was to do though. Must have been the tightest oil filter I've ever encountered!

New (to me) expansion tank fitted today too.

Tarted the front end up a bit with the correct bonnet badge. The previous badge had the larger diameter base for the later facelift model.

I presume there is a retaining clip missing as the new clip wobbled around in the hole. Nothing a bit of adhesive can't sort.

Next up was to sort the pungent aroma of petrol so that the other half dislikes the car a little less.

There was a considerable whiff coming through the cabin vents and looking under the bonnet I found this drip. Perfectly placed in front of the blower motor intake.

Turns out that's the EHA valve so my hand was forced and I had to work on the scary KE-JET system.

To start with I tried replacing the o-rings that seal the valve to the metering head. No improvement, in fact the leak got worse.

A lowball bid on eBay resulted in a replacement valve with a slightly different part number.

Fitted it and the engine would start but ran extremely poorly. Started by adjusting the valve's grub screw to a baseline 6.6mm as recommended online. Then it would fire but not idle. Adjusting the screw to match the old valve at 8.06mm resulted in it running nicely.

Daren't call it fixed but the smell seems to have gone. For now at least.

Well the EHA valve seems to have held out and it's still running well (touch wood!).

I turned my attention to stopping the interior looking like a BDSM dungeon.

@LightBulbFun kindly collected me a selection of grey parts from a breaker in Epsom. Top marks for cramming himself in and amongst the parts

I'm half way through fitting them, but the front half of the cabin now looks like this.

Annoyingly I can't get the sun roof open, so I can't swap the red sun visor backing panel.

Managed to source the rest of the panels, hopefully I'll get up to Preston to collect those this week.

Can I save the luck for when my other half finds out? I am planning to stash it at the top of our street for a week, then go on holiday for a week, then fess up.

No. But PC = 1. Not sure whether that's a bad omen.

Quite right. I'm no good at this... Here's a photo I took quickly before stashing it in the lock up.
