Ford Exploders. Tell me about 'em.

Because I'm bored of time wasters with the 635 and a bloke has offered me one of these things as a swap.

Unfortunately, it's the early, square, Firestone spec one.

Question is, is it worth 550ish? Loads of MOT and a bit of tax. LHD. 4.0. Spanish import on UK plates.

Watch out for T-Rexs

I really can't see you ever being able to sell a LHD Explorer in this country. Frankly it isn't worth a wank.

If you MOT the 635 I'm sure you will have no probs getting £1250 for it.

TO be honest, Wazza, I'm sick to death of timewasters with the 635. To MOT it would mean spending more money on it (£63) and still having to deal with time wasters. I've had a multitude of idiots trying to just buy the front seats from it, and nobody at all interested in buying the whole car. Dutch bloke after the seats and rear spoiler, French bloke after the seats and n/s door, German bloke after the seats, geezer from Hong Kong after the seats and fuel computer.

I don't want to take it apart, I don't want to spend any time working on it. I want the fucking thing off my path in exchange for money.

I am very, very tempted to take the front seats out, fill the thing with shite from my garage, and send it over the bridge of doom.

I'd be happy with £600 for it, ffs.

I really can't hack dealing with the public when it comes to cars.

The Exploder, whilst being LHD, would be good for trips to Czech, and it's floggable there.

That's a 4 litre pushrod V8 chucking out around 150 horses IIRC. One of my mate's neighbours had one until a few weeks ago, and I don't recall them having any issues of note. He now has a Chevrolet Blazer. Gawd help him.

Think you'll eventually get a buyer for the BMW eventually, if you can be arsed with further timewasters.

This is the point, John. I can't be arsed with time wasters.

I got out of the car game because of the dithering wankers who seem to think that a few hundred quid is a life changing amount of cash, and if they lose any money after buying a 20 year old motor it's some sort of disaster.

If I see a car for sale that looks interesting and isn't unrealistically priced, and I want it, I buy it. I seem to be the only one that does though. Buying old cars is risky, always will be. Yet there seem to be millions of utter tossers out there who'll fuck about and dither endlessly over buying something that is advertised as needing work because it needs work. Yet it's the only example they can afford of the type of car they want, but they can't afford to fix it up. So why the fuck are they bothering me? I've explained exactly what it needs in the ad, and again over the phone, yet they want to turn up, look at it, get all disappointed that it's not a concours highline job for £5. Wankers.

The number of utter fuckwits who've been in touch about the 6 series is immense. None of them actually want to buy the car, they just want bits off it, even though I tell them all that I'm not going to break it, they still ring up, come and view, then tell me that they only want the seats or whatever. Then they explain that they don't have the money / space / time and they were hoping I'd take the seats out for them... and that they're sorry for wasting my time. Then they ring me a couple of days later.. "Still got the 635? I still want to buy the seats..." followed by a derisory offer for the seats, "I'll give you £300 for them", fuck off. I've been offered £500 for 'em and turned it down because it's the whole car or nothing..

Here's an example of the kind of fuckwittery I'm having to put up with.

Hello. Kindly quickly get back to me with final price if is still available for sale...ok Hope doing business with you. Best Regards Lancy My Phone No: nil

Hello, Kindly quickly get back to me with the last price, if is still for sale... Best regards. My Phone No: 4456889876

So it's not just wankers, it's spammers as well.

Pricks, the lot of 'em. Fuck it. I'll take the seats out (and keep them) and send the rest over the bridge if it's not gone this week.

Or I'll swap it for the Exploder and use that to go to Czech in.

oh, a V8 - i thought it was a V6 cologne

It is indeed a 4.0 V6. Just been to have a look at it. No rot anywhere but the odd sign that Stevie Wonder hasn't given up his paintwork sideline. Drives worryingly well. It's Euro spec as it's a Spanish one.

He's advertised it in the Trader for this week comijg so I said to him if he's had no signs of interest in the next week, I'll do the deal.

It's shite, but not awful..

Keep the 635. Sell the seats and turn it into a trackday plaything.

Take the Ford, get rid of the Bavarian Money Waster any way you can. You'll always be able to palm the Ford off on the American car community, if it's cheap enough. Hell, I was in your neck of the woods, I'd have leapt at it! As a daily-driver to complement my 1962 Cadillac, it would have been perfect, or at least as near to it as my Volvo 740 Estate. Straight swap? Damn right, I would.

Pete, I've contacted Edd who is a serious BMW perv. I'll let you know what he says.

Otherwise, I'd take the Ford. I have a similar tolerance level for idiots.

Their loss if they can't have it their way exactly.

80s German coupes are a tricky market, people still think they can be picked up for a tenner, but they'll always cost big money to repair. Bit like 80s Jaguars I suppose, they're at that point on the depreciation curve.

Still, it's surprising that the local teenagers don't want it for a grand instead of a ropey old 3 series that won't make another MoT?

I vote you swap it for the Ford. Let it be known that it's for sale when you're next in Czecho and come back by plane.

The alternative is being charged for GBH when someone from ebay turns up on your doorstep and you take out your frustrations on his throat.

ps, can you change your avatar back to Brick Top? Your posts read much better

Engine was an American-spec Cologne 4.0L V6, only the Yanks got the 302W V8. Ford 'box and Dana transfer case/axles (IIRC) so good, tough stuff there.

I drove a couple, new at the time, and found them a bit confused. They sounded right, but were too heavy to be quick. The panels were obviously hefty and strong, with rubbish paint on top. Interior, comfy but really cheap plastics.

No surprise they didn't sell here; but for a modest price, like you say, it would be excellent for your purpose. There's a couple still trundling round here, pulling horseboxes.

I vote swap it for the Ford. Ford has Mot, BMW does not.

As you say, it'll do the trip to the Czech Rep, and you can flog it to an Eastern European who wants to live the capitalist 'We love the United States of Freedom' dream.

Not knowing much about Mr -M but knowing what some of his current, previous and wanted vehicles are, I can probably guess fuel consumption is fairly low down on the list ;)

Is this the same "Exploder" that you looked at months ago ?

(Just after dropping me off at home, after the Eastham meet)

.... i would personally stick with the 635, it WILL sell just have patience.

Oh I know it'll sell, I'm just fed up with mouth-breathing BMW scene scum trying to buy the friggin' seats from it.

The Exploder isn't actually that bad. If I end up with that, I won't be upset. It's useable now, as opposed to being valuable if I could be arsed working on it.
