trigger Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 The Celeste is probably a bit like my Galant to drive, does it feel like a million turns lock-to-lock? That's part of the fun!I didn't even bother driving it tbh, he did offer me the chance but it just wasn't worth it, I was promised that is was really worth it but it wasn't, It's amazing how photos can make a car look so good. It's a shame but hopefully something else will turn up. This whole experience has really crashed (No pun indented) my car mojo, after thoughts about how i could have been in my old 1602 it's scared me off cars a bit.
garethj Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 after thoughts about how i could have been in my old 1602 it's scared me off cars a bit. Like falling off a horse, you've got to get right back in the saddle. If you don't have wheels before Tuesday, either borrow someone's car or go and steal one. That old Beemer of yours is like a Daimler Ferret scout car compared to riding a motorbike, but plenty of people crash them and it doesn't put them (and me) off
Justin Case Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Sorry to hear of your accident Trigger, hope that you and Mrs T are now ok, but as other have said take care there are no delayed after-effects. I wouldn't want to make things even worse for you, so I'm laying off the short-term/ long-term replacement advice
eddyramrod Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 My mate had a Celeste about 20 years ago. He sold the plate, then had the car sprayed, so if you meet a red automatic, TCW 555T, I'll be interested, that was Dave's! I don't think he's in a position to reclaim it, and I'm certainly not, from over here, but we would like to know if/where it still exists. Most of mine went to scrap, but Dave usually sold a car on as viable, so some of them will still be around.
AnthonyG Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hello Trigger, Glad to hear that you are OK - amazed at the lack of response from emergency services. At least you got a fast ride in a mint Sierra, so the weekend wasn't all bad! (I was going to say the weekend wasn't a total write off but that would not have been a good choice of words) P.S. Silly bints Ibiza will be a total loss, as it has obviously bent the shell. Maybe her parents might refuse to buy her another car after numerous accidents!
dollywobbler Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Trig - the potential for death is something you just have to live with driving older cars. But put it this way though - I know LOTS of people who've had really quite major crashes in 2CVs. All walked away. I know of one bloke driving a modern who was killed by something unsecured coming forward and hitting him on the head in a fairly minor shunt. When it's your time, it's your time.
cms206 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I reckon that Avensis could be a write off, one of my mates nearly lost his Pug 407 when a dizzy bat drove into the front of him when he was stationary at a junction ( ). Sum total of the damage was a cracked headlight mounting bracket and a slight ding in the bonnet and wing... apparantly about 5mm movement in the front subframe isn't worth repairing
retrogeezer Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Glad you are O.K Trigger...could easily have been worse. 308 is a clear case of just being bumped while moving...just a shove forwards really. Some bint did the same thing to me on Saturday night, just pulled straight from lane 1 into lane 2 in front of me. I was about 10 feet behind doing 15mph more than her. Luckily no-one in lane 3 so I could jink right but if there had been I doubt I could have stopped. She was obviously one of the 'manouvre, signal, mirror' brigade.
Mash Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Glad you're OK Trig and Hannah too. Shame the Celeste was a dog, hope you get sorted with the Passat replacement and also a new toy soon
trigger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 308 is a clear case of just being bumped while moving...just a shove forwards really.Yes I hope the insurance assessor can see that as well, I guess the 308 went from 70 > 40ish, the Ibiza never slowed down at all so must of hit her at 70 mph say, then just stopped in a panic, I must of killed my speed from 70 > 30 mph then the Avensis behind must of hit me at about 50 mph, That was the hardest hit. We done the 1 1/2 hour drive to Sawbridgeworth today to get our belongings from the car, It was quite sad to see the car, Mrs Trigger started crying . The back panel is pushed into the spare wheel and the bolts for the tow bar are all bent up inside the boot, The engine still starts and runs perfectly, You can't kill a good PD Engine! I now have to find a cheap banger to last me a few months until i get a pay out but i guess that's a small price to pay for still being able to walk.
Milford Cubicle Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I don't think yours is a PD. It's a 307 btw
trigger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 It was a PD Milf, Mine's a W 2000 Plate with the 115 bhp engine and AJM engine code but your right about the Pug, I thought it was a 308, they all look the same to me!
Angrydicky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 If you're really stuck there's an S reg bubble shape Micra for sale in my road - I can get the details if you want. £600 which seems a lot but there might be scope for haggling (paintwork isn't the best)
trigger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I don't really fancy anthor Micra, Fancy something more manly, I did see a R plate Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X for sale today with all the leather, 133k and rotten wheel arches for £750!
Angrydicky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Or....you are welcome to borrow the A55 Cambridge for a few weeks if you need to, it's taxed and MOT'd, there is no driver's window though (fell out) and the clutch is slipping slightly. It's not the usual unreliable rubbish though. If you are interested PM me. You know where I am

When it's your time, it's your time.True , I mean according Honest John it's an instant death trap but then they know everything about 2CV's don't they, when there's been a car accident fatality around here, its not an old car but something thats NCAP rated five.
pompei Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Don't even consider it unless it's got gaffa'd up rear bumpers
Guest Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 The Celeste is probably a bit like my Galant to drive, does it feel like a million turns lock-to-lock? That's part of the fun!I'm not sure how mechanically fit mine was, but the steering was very dim witted and far too slow for the rest of the car. The helm on my Amazon was a damn sight more precise. I reckon a well driven 122S could have stayed with it on a back road. The brakes were average, and even with decent 175/70 rubber on the back it would spin the rear wheels up at the slightest hint of moisture on the road. I'd say the engine was the best bit of the car. It was gutsy and howled if you belted it. It idled steady as a rock at 650 rpm and was rather smooth for a late seventies OHC engine (smoother in fact than the 4CZ1 in the Piazza which was fuel injected but had similarly ancient origins) - that's a balancer shaft for you.
brammy777 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Jeez, really sorry to hear that the car wasnt what you were expecting. You are most definitely owed something good now. I will try to keep an eye out for something on ebay and whatnot for you.... Perhaps a Sierra would be a good bet.

That's a really kind offer!, I have Hannah's Micra still so we aren't car less and we both have been signed of from work so we can live with one car at the moment. Edd Weeks from retro rideshas just offered me a Senator with long T+T for £450! quite tempting! Brammy - I really fancy a nice Sierra GT or Sapphire GLSi at the moment as a run about! Oh and the lady who owns that red rusty Amazon what i looked last week has emailed me tonight offering it to me for £800 now!
pogweasel Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Edd Weeks from retro rideshas just offered me a Senator with long T+T for £450! Do this. Oh and the lady who owns that red rusty Amazon what i looked last week has emailed me tonight offering it to me for £800 now!and this.
M'coli Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 There's still a Saab for sale cheaply in Yorkshire!
trigger Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Edd Weeks from retro rideshas just offered me a Senator with long T+T for £450! It looks nice doesn't, Sadly he said the diff is very noisy and the MPG isn't great at the moment plus a few other bits, It's a bit juicy for me really, Although being the 24v with a manual box i bet it's fun! The Amazon was rough and I'm worried that I'll spend most my time broken down it in, I'll take a drive out tomorrow around the local garages and see if anything cheap has been part-x in.
Pillock Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Oooof that Senator is nice. My high-viz would look great on the parcel shelf of that, just need an Alastair Stewart commentary.
pogweasel Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Oooof that Senator is nice. My high-viz would look great on the parcel shelf of that, just need an Alastair Stewart commentary.Agreed. Bet you could still put the shits up joe public in one. Add a passenger rear-view mirror and three stubby ariels on the roof for extra effect.
Pillock Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 A guy I used to work with drives an Octavia estate. We wear high-viz vests and dark blue shirts at work. He noticed one day on the way home a Supra weaving in and out of traffic, overtaking in daft places, in his rear view mirror coming up behind him. And then it pulled out from behind the car behind him, nailed it...... and immediately hit the brakes and dropped in behind matey. Matey then drops the speed.... 60 - 55 - 50 - 45, still Supra driver can't find the bottle to overtake an Octavia driven by a guy in a dark shirt and fluorescent jacket. Mwahahah. I think I'd be OK seeing a Senator, but Volvos still put the shits up me when I'm driving like a cock.
oldford Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 This looks as though it might be worth a bid or two: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1984-FORD-SIERRA-2-0-GL-22k-miles-new-NO-RESERVE-/110568119126?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item19be5f9b56 I had a look at the RR photos of the Celeste when I got in on Sunday, it looked alot better than the car that we saw.
ashmicro Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 That Sierra is superb. Even still has the CAF pipe intact, and it isn't a tumble-drier job. Wonderful. GR8 4 pretending to be early 80's CID.
Guest Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Shame about the Senny needing a bit of work - it looks great. Anyone who does not like that 22.k mile Sierra is wrong
