Adventures in a nugget. 2006 Hyundai Getz “dead”

Some of you may have seen I purchased the little red Getz off @EightMegs for a very good price. It got me 50 miles home back to Portsmouth without issue and on £10 worth of petrol. The plan with it is to get the little issues sorted out and let the Mrs learn to drive in it.

Firstly I gave the outside a wash, cleans up nice for a sub £150 car.

Next weekend it’ll be getting a service and potentially a new rocker cover gasket as it’s dropping a fair bit of oil.

The wheels look sporty! It’s missing a purple boot spoiler

Sounds perfect for you, right now. Hope she takes to it.

Good luck with it mate. It's a bit of fun and get your money back for scrap if it doesn't play ball. Can't lose

After a trip to work and back, I’m pretty sure it’s got a slight misfire so I’m going to order new set of leads/plugs along with a new air filter and throttle position sensor as there is a slight “lag” when getting on the throttle.

Had a few mins to myself before work so I thought I’d change the plugs and the leads. Now I’ve changed them it runs a whole lot better, still could do with a new throttle position sensor. I’ve never used Denso plugs before so wonder how long they’ll last

Well, the Getz gave up the ghost the other day, it’s done well for a £125 car. CarTakeBack is picking it up on Wednesday, RIP little nugget.

That didn't last you long! What killed  it?

There is a misfire, also the throttle response is non existent, pulling away from junctions it wants to stall out. I’ve replaced every sensor, changed plugs and leads, checked for codes with an OBD2 scanner and it brings up nothing.

Are cartakeback particularly militant on having a complete car? I could do with a few bits for my daughter's Getz.

All window seals, instrument cluster front plastic, possibly front grille?

It's a shame the sensors, plugs, and leads didn't sort it. It was like that for the whole six months I owned it, with all of my free time going to engine swapping the Carina, I didn't really get a chance to do any work on it. It was a nightmare trying to drive it back from Bradford with an engine and bits in the boot while it was that down on power, but I'm sad to see it leave the fold all the same.

I’m not sure if I’m honest, I’m sort of worried to find out. They’ve offered me £170 scrap which has put me even pretty much.

Some random small bits they're not arsed about. They'd defo get shitty about cats and batteries and I'd be willing to bet they won't collect if body panels missing or it looks stripped.
