Sherpa Freight Rover LDV alert

^Actually I like that.  I've just looked up the MoT history, and OK, it's got less than a week to run, but the last few have seen a shitload of welding, plus work to the brakes.  I think this is a better prospect than the yellow 200 we saw earlier, at least on paper.

Naturally the timing is crap, because I haven't got any money at the moment!

What's that sound I can hear from here????

I used to work for a bloke with an ldv400, biggest piece of shit I've driven, wandered all over the road so badly we expected to be pulled for drink driving on the night shift.

He had a couple, one met it's end when the Muppet yard hand put a load of paper in the back, backed it up to the (lit) incinerator, put half the papers on, and went for a fag , leaving the rear doors wide open.

The inevitable happened, the van was reduced to ashes!

We all thought it was brilliant, but the owner was practically in tears (probably more from the thought of having to spend money to get something else!)

The Muppet yard hand? "It's not my fault!"

That's why he was a Muppet, I wouldn't let him in the workshop....

Someone near us had an ex Ambulance one they’d converted to a camper. Presumably they enjoyed being told to fuck off from various campsites up and down the country. There’s no disguising an old ambulance of that era, it looks like exactly what it is, a scruffy old ambulance. 😂

That battery's probably scrap anyway.  Doesn't matter, I have one here.  Now who's in Norwich that could go and look at that "welding to rear of chassis" that it allegedly needs?

So I showed this picture to a volunteer at the Daf Museum this afternoon.  And said "where are the vans"

Unfortunately I don't think they like to be reminded of their history. Edit: look carefully in the picture to the left of the organisation chart. It looks like the Daf400 ? 20250622_141517.jpg.607c6884dc1f339bd4ea9e434b1d2999.jpg

Sorry about the shadow above.

They only had 2 vehicles that would be in the same size class ; a Pickup20250622_150436.jpg.4d9cb2b3b4e85aa2383ef3c7114b13a3.jpg

And a police van 20250622_150445.jpg.c35d3f277721b1e82160346ce556c43a.jpg

I only asked him to wind him up.

Not true; me and @andrew e went a few years ago prior to the Frankfurt motorshow and they had a very unusual spec LDV 400 crew cab pick-up but with standard wheelbase and single wheel rear axle. What's more, you could play in it. Let me go into the archives

Here in Wirral, there's still a Y reg Freight Rover pick up working for a living in the hands of an old bloke.

Sherpas don't quit; neither do their drivers.

I'll try and grab a pic so all you Sherpa pervs can shoot your "Lode Lane" over it.

My memories of a ldv pilot with a Perkins prima in it although can't be sure of the engine because no one ever lifted the bonnet on it, was driving with  the sliding door open coping with the quarter of turn play in the steering and getting 2nd year wheel spin on the turn from Stratford Broadway into romford road there was only one other lad in the firm who would drive,he loved it too . Good times.

We were never lucky enough to get them up here. But I have seen one come up for sale, it was a ex Royal Mail LDV short wheelbase I guess it was bought by a Brit who moved here and used it to transport his stuff and had it registered in Norway.

The LWB LDV 400 Convoy used to enjoy a huge amount of the XL 3.5t van market that has now been dominated by the Merc Sprinter.

My school had a (i guess) LDV 200 minibus. I don't recall a great deal about it other than the distinctive graphic down the side. "Combi", possibily?

Edit: oh it had the square lights and body coloured (white) grille.
