Great Seth!, I've been wanting to see the back of that for ages, It looks a bit shite though!.

I saw it last month at Gaydon but it was hiding in the workshops and this was the best i could take.

What's the script with that, is it a prototype or something knocked up for a laugh?

It's so fugly it's actually class and reminds me of one of those Sherpa pick-ups.

It the standard BL prototype that never would be, but brilliant and yes... I would!

Certainly wouldn't want one but it does look 'interesting'. Must have an absolutely massive boot.

Seen that before, but what a brilliant thing. Standard (sic) BL stuff - design something that will sell, and bin it. :(

Posted

No, sorry don't like it. The Metro was supposed to be a little car with no boot.

Contender for the Chevette market though, Fred.

1275 Turbo with 4 doors=win. Red with black bodykit.

If they'd have fitted the saloon (and hatch) with front-rear interlinked hydragas like they did to the K-series ones, I reckon it would have sold massively in Ireland and other places where they prefer saloons to hatchbacks and have shocking roads.

With you on the terrible roads, Coli. Mrs Ash and I had to REVERSE up a road in Letterkenny. The S Type, with 240BHP, wouldn't go up forwards.

Posted

god awful, just imagine it with any weight in the boot, dragging its arse alon the road like a dog with worms.

Posted

Bet it would have sold a few though, all in that colour and all put on eBay 25 years later with Dulux house paint touch ups and seat covers that smell of piss.

Posted

shame they didnt still the proper metro lights on the back, still am interesting car though

It looks a lot like a Metro with a VW Derby boot grafted on.

And I don't think that's a compliment

I would too... :D

Yes, the boot looks big from the rear end picture, certainly larger than the hatchback.

I don’t think the rear end of it looks that bad actually. Looking from front to back it looks poorly proportioned (does this use the standard rear side glass from the three door? Looks it to me...) but from back to front, it looks okay to me! Then again, I do have a habit of liking cars that others don’t.

I don’t think it would have faired too badly against the Nova saloon, apart from the issue of rust of course. It probably would have been the darling of the old giffer fleet in the 80's. Soft pillows on the parcel shelf - I can picture it now...

I think it would have just been too shit overall. A Nova saloon is more shit than a Nova hatch, and a metro is more shit than a Nova, so maybe a Metro saloon is just too shit outright to even get past the BL marketing dept?

Posted

I have produced a handy summary of Mr_Bo1's arguement:

NOVA ----shit----> NOVA SALOON ----shit----> CATCHING THE BUS ----shit----> METRO ----shit----> WALKING BAREFOOT OVER USED HYPERDERMICS ----shit----> METRO SALOON

Posted

I reckon it would have been a hit with the OAP crowd, particularly all those trading in their Allegro 1100/1300.

succesor of the Riley Elf / Wolsely Hornet?

that's the sort of stone-cold logic that makes everything I think seem stupid.
