Split_Pin Posted April 30 Posted April 30 I had asked for my good mate and all round musical superstar Paul Simon to accompany me on my latest collection mission today. His music was my dad's favourite. There appears to have been a misunderstanding: Cavcraft, Matty, JMotor and 10 others 13
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 Ok well he's here now so lets crack on with the day. Peter, do you want to give shiters a clue what car it is? Â
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 Ok well I'll do it: Here's some parts left over from 2 previous examples that will be used for the upcoming one. Tickman 1

Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 Peter was a bit late for that train. He's not aged a bit since Double Dare. mercedade 1
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 "HEYHEYHEY!!" "LOOK WHO IT IS!" "KENNY DALGLISH!!!" "WHAT TRAIN'S HE WAITING ON?" Are you sure its him, Peter? "KENNY!" "KEEENNNAAYY!" "KEEENNNAAAAYYYY!" "IT'S PETER SIMON! HOWS IT GOING!!" Are you absolutely sure that's Sir Kenny? He doesn't look that happy to see us. Matty, JMotor, mercedade and 4 others 2 5
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 Oh. Anyway, Peter was no help. As @Supernaut correctly guessed, it's tje forum Saab 9-3. A quick change over on baking 28 degree heat in Crewe and I was off up the road. Quick pish stop at Southwaite and some overpriced fuel. Verdict. Drives well enough, suspension is softer/smoother than my last 2 which I like, smells damp (they all do). Front bumper is fucked though so I'll see about a replacement. Should come in at under £100. brownnova Posted April 30 Posted April 30 This car still holds the title as being in one of my favourite ever photos taken of me… A friend saw me coming up the dual carriageway from the bridge. (Bonus is you can’t see much of me 🤣) Great buy btw. The thought of having this back did cross my mind, but I’m glad it’s gone to you. It’ll likely keep being improved. It deserves to live, there’s a good car in there. CaptainBoom, yes oui si, FakeConcern and 4 others 7
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 And hame at about 8.15pm I wasn't feeling well on the train but I felt better as soon as I got off it and the drive home was uneventful apart from the whole 4 lanes jumping on the brakes from 70 to 30 every 5 miles. After the bottom of the Lake District was reached I had a pretty much clear road. I should hopefully have a bumper sorted out, other than that just an oil change and a good clean should see it right. Mrs_Pin was impressed with the colour. lesapandre, Keymaster, beko1987 and 8 others 7 4

When we're headed up to Scotland we usually hit the M6 around Crewe and I fecki' hate it - all the way to Lancaster it's the shitfest you describe - after that? Lovely drive all the way to the outskirts of Glasgow. Split_Pin and lesapandre 2
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 Yes that's exactly it for me every time! lesapandre 1
83C Posted April 30 Posted April 30 Good to meet you even if it was brief, managed to get the train back home with a couple of minutes to spare so all is good. I have to say it was a nice thing to wander around in, I sort of wished I’d had the roof down today driving up to Crewe but I think the sun would have been a bit much. lesapandre, Split_Pin and mk2_craig 3
Split_Pin Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 I brought my hat specially, pulled over at Knutsford and dropped the roof. Even with all the windows down and just a t-shirt I was still roasting 😎Managed to stick it out until Southwaite when it started to get 'north' and more chilly. lesapandre 1
Stinkwheel Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Nice to see this saab still doing good forum service, I'm also very pleased Peter was along for the collection with you, I tell you, famous (or reasonably famous) folks assisting with collections is the way forward, just ask Mel Gibson. lesapandre, Split_Pin, CaptainBoom and 1 other 4

Split_Pin Posted May 1 Author Posted May 1 All 4 of my Saabs have done the rounds of the forum and as far as I know are still extant here. Laser Red 9-3 Cab Auto: Northernmonkey, SRi05 twice, Wack, me and currently MAF260. Espresso Black 9-3 Manual: Jazoli, me, Prince Rupert, Cookiesouwest and now the ex-wife of another member whose name escapes me Steel Grey 9-5: wgl2019, Crackers, Bornite, me and now Aldo135 Current Nocturne Blue 9-3 cab: Brownnova, DirtyDaily, Ken, 83C and me. To show I'm putting it about a bit now: I bought the 9-3 from 83C who also used to own the forum A8. The latter was the 'Bumpergate' car and the perpetrator of that owned my Espresso 9-3 for a short time (I refrained from cracking any funnies on that yesterday ðŸ¤) DirtyDaily who used to own the blue 9-3 now owns an Audi A8 I also owned. I've sold Aldo135 3 cars now, 2 of which I bought on here! Anyway, the blue 9-3 cleaned up well inside and out. I found a bottle of leather cleaner under the seat so used that and improved the seats a lot. I kept the tailored mats I bought brand new for the Espresso 9-3 and fitted them to the blue one today: Oil and filter ordered. I'll fit the splitter tomorrow in lieu of a new bumper. The clonk from the back is exactly the same noise that my red 93 made, and likely still does. It never got picked up at the MOT. The front ARB bushes are also creaky, same as my Espresso 9-3. Never fixed that either 😂  Coprolalia, aldo135, lesapandre and 11 others 14
Split_Pin Posted May 2 Author Posted May 2 Still needs a new bumper and my guess on the colour wasn't exactly right but for £9.98 for the paint and a free splitter that I had lying about, I'll take it as fixed for now. CaptainBoom, AnnoyingPentium, Dave_Q and 4 others 7
MAF260 Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Anyone would think you like Saabs.... I'll be digging the red one out of winter hibernation soon for its MOT - will see if anyone down this way finds an issue with that clonk at the rear. Then it's on to finish the jobs/enhancements I didn't manage to finish last year. Split_Pin 1

Good to see the red one being looked after, let me know if the source of that noise is identified so I know exactly what it is that I'm ignoring on mine 😂 MAF260 1
Split_Pin Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 Next job was the busted drivers sun visor. Handily a replacement was in the boot, possibly put off by the tiny torx screws that hold it on. It was quite distracting as I could see myself driving and changing gear when the old visor was down 😂 Hopefully my oil filter will come today and I can get thar done after I paint some bits on the front of the house. I've been putting some miles on this since I bought it and I'm very much enjoying being back in one of these again. I've had the roof down every day. brownnova, Back_For_More, Keymaster and 6 others 9
Keymaster Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Ace. I picked that spare sun visor up ages ago for Ken, while I was at RTJ to get a spare key for mine. Split_Pin and Bear 2
