Yes of course anything post 2009 has to have a DPF.

But the car is 2006 and the X Type was finished by 2009.I had a 2005 Fiat that didn't,a2007 one that did,a 2007 Honda that didn't, and a 2010 Renault that didn't either. In the case of the Fiat and Renault, different versions of the same engine, didn't and did respectively.Hence asking.

I think and don't quote me on this, the 2 litre doesn't have one. but the 2.2 does.

Might be best asking on the social media groups. Or if you can find a VIN decoder.

Yes you are correct, I thought it was a 2016 for some reason 😂

Took it for a good thrash tonight and the clutch seems fine and it seems quite lively now.Son's taxed it and hopefully picking it up tomorrow, leaving the BMW for me to coax through its MOT.

My 55 plate 2006 x type 2.0 diesel didn't have a dpf.  Not sure if any did?

Anyway, son came and collected it and took it to Derby, leaving the BMW at ours for me to look at and decide it's future.Messaged him to see what he thinks, and says he loves it.Aaah....

Good that he loves it, they are very underrated things. Plenty of good forums on fb.  An ICarsoft diagnostic kit for JLR stuff is very, very useful.

Passed MOT today. He'd bought some new bonnet struts for it when I told him they were a failure.Well,if it fell on the testers head,it might be! Anyway, another useable car for 500 quid.

Fitted it with a towbar today so the lad can tow the Combi Camp trailer tent.Bought a complete Tow Trust kit from PF Jones, which had arrived very quickly.Didn't go quite as planned.Found out it had had one fitted in the past as the bumper had been cut and the wiring cut out.Couldn't get the bumper off due to rusted up fixings, but managed to ease it on by bending the plastic out the way.Cost 175 quid which is over a third of the cost of the car.Bet the original one is languishing in the original owners garage in Cleckheaton or somewhere, waiting for him to die and his family to ask what the silly old fool saved it for, before putting it out for the scrap man!IMG_20250518_193432.jpg.f50b58fe6f66615ee935b5896c7dcf44.jpg

IIMG_20251217_165227.jpg.d834643d464188fe52f6600d31eb26ca.jpgDue to a change in son's circumstances, the poor thing has languished on our front since August. He's working in Berlin for A couple of years. If he comes home for work,Rolls Royce hire a car for him,so he's not needed it,but he'll need it over Christmas. Before he left ,the rear discs and pads plus the fluid were changed along with the oil and filter.New front discs and pads were left in the boot when time ran out. We'd noticed the auxiliary belt was past it's best too.Thought I'd better take a look at it.First job was to get it started.Battery was well flat and difficult to charge.Ended up buying a new Yuasa from GSF.Got the belt off and changed the crank pulley as well.Putting it all back was a challenge and ended up making three special tools. The top one is to lock the pulley while the bolts are tightened. The middle one is to undo the tensioner mounting pivot enough to slip the belt behind. The bottom one to take the tension off the tensioner whilst fitting the belt, which was fecking tight and caused much swearing. Why didn't they put the engine the proper way round?Fitted the pads and discs and a new battery in the key, inflated the tyres and hopefully it's ready to go.Sounds better now.Still well aware it's an old school diesel though. He's coming home on the 21st and will need it to go over to his girlfriend in Shropshire for Christmas.
