When I filled up there was a Golf R in front of me giving it large, bless him.

Will neither confirm or deny, just need to wait for the speeding ticket to come in.

Do you get people trying to race you in it ?

A CLA180 attempted an undertake. Attempted.

@nev_jr has just been round in this, and on leaving put it into "Sport".

It was a dirty noise.

When we've got a bit more time, a recording will happen.

How easy is it to drive? Something RWD with >500bhp & 500lb/ft sounds like a recipe for something that would try and kill you if you tried to use some of the power and weren't an actual driving god - I assume a lot of electronic boffinery has gone into making sure that you don't just end up backwards in a hedge the first time you put your foot down to overtake a Honda Jazz doing 26mph in an NSL?

I'm not sure if the C63AMG is different, but "cooking" W204s have a fairly intrusive traction / stability control system which cannot be fully switched off.  Which is possibly why you see fewer of these going backwards into a ditch than, say, M140is.

Given the power and ratios etc. the thing is surprisingly stable. There is an option for the traction control to go off but I am not man enough for that.

I partly ask because I used to work with a man who had a remapped BMW 123d. It was very rapid, but one day he decided that since he was such an astute driver, he'd turn the TCS and ESP off. not very long after this fateful decision, driving in his customary manner, he exited the A3 stage left, demolishing a fairly substantial sign and did quite a lot of damage to the car.

It wasn't written off, and the insurers paid for it to be repaired which surprised me, but it did rather underline just how much overtime the electronic aids do to keep even 200bhp cars pointing the right way!

Brilliant car, and I'm very envious. Enjoy it, I fear we won't see another like this ever. A Tesla is impressive on paper, but these are living breathing beasts in a way that can't be replicated. The family man's Allard J2X for the 21st century

IIRC didn't Clarkson bin a 135i in a straight line at the TG track?  It was wet, if I recall...Think he was testing it against a Golf or some description, R maybe?

He concluded that he'd have the Golf as it managed V-max without attempting to murder him.

Next local(ish) meet we have, (Flower Farm?) I'll get wee man out of bed, and it can be inspected.

One of the reasons why I bought it, as after these they were given turbos which is a touch sacrilegious in my eyes, but to each their own.

New plate time?

Shirley a “weapon” plate would make me as much of a weapon if I kept the “BO55”? I will be taking the James May buzzword for everything when it comes to this. Standard.
