What's he mean?

I've seen a couple of ebay ads where the water system is described as pressurising. I'm guessing this means HG failure? One is a ten year old Mazzer Quattroporte which is at £1595!! 8)

Means that the cooling system is being filled with escaping exhaust gas from an internal leak. HGF being the least serious of the causes...porous block/head the worst. ooooer

He means "It's fucked and I'm buggered if I'm gonna be spending any more on this piece of shit, so I'm describing it as a weird fault. If you come to see it, I'll pretend I know nothing about cars at all, but in truth I'm a time served Maserati mechanic..."

I've experienced 'pressurising coolant systems' when my pressure release valve on the cap was buggered.

I also lost the alternator belt on an MR2, which also spins the water pump. The coolant was certainly pressurised when I took the cap off, when it shot 20 foot in the air!

Maybe cracked head, it's one of many bad things anyway.

What's he mean?

Its going to be a money pit - so getting shot of it now

Is pressurising like the early signs of h/g fail in PSA dizzlers? I was always told to check the rad/expansion tank on these for signs of the water 'bubbling'.

Is that Mazzer back on?

I had a cheeky bid a couple of weeks ago, then shat my pants when Mrs outlaw found out. been sold, no reserve at least twice now....

EDIT Now has a reserve......

This one available for £6500, and it works....

It probably means "the head gasket's been changed and it's no better so I'm getting rid".

I'm always wary of "trivial" faults being declared, if they are that trivial why wasn't it fixed? See also "it would fly through an MOT"- fly it then, and sell the car as a runner.

yep, thats it, looks kinda tempting.....in a masochistic type of way!!

I wonder how easy it would be to fit a VM diesel in its place.

That is really nice but you know it would be a whole world of pain, especially for someone like me who cant even pretend to know what he is doing. It would sit there looking folorn on my drive until it got so bad it was unsavable and would be sold for pennies to a passing gypsy.

It sounds exactly like something I would buy.

Changing the head gasket and putting the head back on without skimming it can do this - not that I should know this from any experience whatsoever. ;)

I'd personally go for it. Take the whole engine out and rebuild it, it'd a nice car otherwise.

I rebuilt a BiTurbo V6 many years ago, it was a painful experience. I wouldn't attempt a driveway rebuild of the V8.

Then there's the cost of the parts. If you think you're gonna get a head gasket set for less than around £500 for it, think again.

Coincidentally have just been speaking on the phone to a mate who's restoring a pre-65 Alfa Bertone (step-front). He's just found that the block is cracked so much that welding is not an option. He's absolutely gutted!

I know absolutely knack-all about Mazzers but I suspect worst-case scenario will be money black hole. But it is still tempting ....

A friend of mine had one of these, EVERYTHING costs at least £250. Buy car, remove engine, fit Peugeot dizzler. Of course everything left installed / built by Maserati will then proceed to expire..........

As a former Biturbo owner I can confirm that this is also the best-case scenario.

You can get them made up, Cometic do these - again, if you're into spending thousands on it. Might chance it's something less than thousands, you might get a bargain, but it's not going to be is it? :(

£500 for gaskets is ludicrous. Just get a pinto gasket for £3 and lop one of the pots off (ideally one of the end ones)

Even better shove in a pinto. I recall seeing mk1 RX7s with boat anchors for engines. Bet that fooked the handling right-up.
