Lord Sterling Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Top notch day chaps, I even got to meet the legendary @hairnet 😲 😂 Anyway, was driving home when a neighbour asked for help with fetching a sofa local, as I had the Vectra waiting for me at home, I decided it'd be a good idea to get it out and give it a wash given all the road debris it's picked up from Leicestershire jaunt yesterday, so Vectra was taken out, washed and sofa picked up and delivered. Anyway, some pics; Where Walle Hairnet... A brass band appeared when we came back from our bus ride. Model/toy cars. I wasn't planning on buying anything but seeing the stall..... Didn't go back to bed was going to work on the van but ended up tidying the garage, good to see you all. chaseracer and Lord Sterling 2
Six-cylinder Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 On today’s trip to the Aldridge Transport Museum I managed to try 4 different buses. There had 3 routes so I did the Chasewater route twice. Bus 1. Was the 1954 Daimler, It was a great experience but the driver had to work very hard with the steering. Bus 2. Was the Leyland leopard and I really liked that. When I was at school a local coach company had one with a different body. Bus 3. Ex Coventry Dennis trident. It was a bit broken in part of the exhaust had fallen off and was very noisy with vibration. In the condition it was in it was unpleasant to ride in. Bus 4. Was the Ex Birmingham City Transport Leyland PD2 – best bus of the day by a mile for me. It looked good, the driver was steering it very comfortably. It also rode nicely and looked good. Really I needed a bus educator to gen me up on what I was looking at. Keymaster, chaseracer, Floatylight and 2 others 5

One of two special lightweight Birmingham 'standards' built to examine if lighter built buses could save money on fuel. This Daimler was the lighter weight CSG5 model instead of the usual six cylinder, preselect transmission version the Birmingham usually ran. Both lightweights, the Leyland and many, many more (prototype BMMO D9, anyone?) Were saved by Bob Shaw, a WMPTE body man who had the foresight to go round and save this stuff while he still could. He even went along the Severn Valley and saved various holiday homes that wee once pre-war mega rare stuff. Sadly he suffered a breakdown in the late 80s and a lot of his stuff was lost as he'd completely lost track of what he had and where it was. What he still had is still an amazing amount of rare, unusual and downright unbelievable buses of the front engined era. chaseracer, RoadworkUK, Six-cylinder and 1 other 3 1
