Volvo shite and loving it.

Trawling ebay at 2am caused me to stumble over this little beauty....so I had to buy it!!!!!

An all round road trip of 345 miles on friday afternoon/evening got it home,7 1/2 hours of driving on the shite roads that are the M25 and M1 (road works)

 

1992 Volvo 460 CD 1721cc Turbo.

 

Spring kit and gas shocks have brought it down and fat 17" alloys to roll on.

 

God,I do like ugly motors and this ticks all my boxes !!

No Richmod ECU for me at present,just going to run it as it is and see how it goes. I know nothing about these Renault engines at the moment apart from they are tunable,so lots of info searching.

I beleive these are the same lump as the 480 turbo,if they are the Renault type fitted.

 

The lump in this 460 was to be removed and put in to a Renault 5 Turbo but the guy changed his mind as the car was to good to break up.

I had a 440 GLT with a crazy dashboard and a ludicrous amount of torque steer, loved it to bits, I bet that things even madder. The GLT went like fuck, they really mis-badged those things.

Is that the same engine as the GTX/TXE Renault 5/9/11/21? If so, did the R9/11/21 turbo ever use it? I always thought it was the 1565 engine.

The 400-series Turbos use the 1721cc engine as fitted to the boggo R21s and posh 5/9/11. The 9 and 11 Turbos used the 1390cc engine as fitted to the 5 Gt Turbo. The 18 used the 1565cc engine (presumably mounted in-line?). The Volvos were the only cars to use a blown 1721 engine as standard.

 

I had a 460 Turbo a couple of years ago, in black, but completely standard looking. Went like the clappers - my 900 T16S would barely stay with it. I had enormous fun pissing off boy racers in that thing. Here's a pic:

 

 

Only Volvo I own now is the 164.

I quite like Volvos too. Had three.

 

First was TAT607W (I think) a 244DL, in beige.

Then was an F reg 760 GLE in very dark metallic grey, I liked it.

Last was the 850 T5 Estate last year.

I run a rather sun-baked Volvo 360GLT - which refuses to die

 

Owned a 740GL, 740SE and an S40 in the past.

 

I'd love another 740 as they're great old barges, but parts are getting ruinously expensive over here, so when the 360 conks out it might mean the end of my Volvo days sadly..mind you that could be years yet!

Had a few Volvos in the past (and have the 740 here I got from Duke) including a handful of 740s, a 950 turbo petrol estate (didn't like that as was very hard to drive anywhere near quickly and was frightening on juice) a couple of 240s and a V70.

That car is quite delightful and the tailgate is about 60% gaffer tape. It's brilliant. But does need attention.

Felling much 460 love here, even if or perhaps because it looks like a 740/760 that's been sat on by elephants.

 

I've had a couple of 144DLs, a 142S, 3x240s various, and have just put the £50 vario 340 in for an MOT which the little bastard only went & passed, so naturally I sold it and am back down to one working car.

Ive always hated the 440/460 but I have to say, that looks absolutley great!

 

I own a pair of 940 turbos, one '96 manual a '97 auto. They cost alot to fuel but as they are both saloons they are very cheap to buy. Im going to break the auto as its worth more in parts than in one piece and I cant afford to run two Volvos at once!
