Wolseley 18/85 - whenever i see one of these it reminds me of a spooky incident myself and a friend had as schoolboys in the mid 70's,while walking down a road we passed one of these cars (or it may have been an Austin/Morris 1800/2200 Landcrab) parked on a slight uphill driveway, just as we passed the car rolled backwards out into the main road and just missed us by a few inches, the dozy owner came running out of his house all in a fluster because he'd forgot to put the handbrake on

Posted Image

Still in the mid 70's,while doing my morning paper round i used to see this bloke leaving for work every morning in one of these and wonder why the engine sounded so different to other cars,i thought they were a great looking car back then and still are today.Last taxed in 1993 this one was on the back of a recovery truck and has probably just been pulled out of years of storage and heading for restoration, the NSU RO80

Incerible amount of class shite here, makes me realise how lazy i've been on the spotting front recently. I really WILL go out and get some photos soon too, i've been having a bit of a recce this week and have found some good stuff....nothing quite as good as you, mind!

Top spottage mate! That Zephyr Six is lovely, Wonder how much they want for it.

Posted

Some amazing stuff there, you have quite an ability to spot some class stuff. That Lada is a very late one, 1997 was the last year of official imports. Theres an M plate estate in Basingstoke, so elusive though! Those kit cars are brilliant.

i remembered, its similar to a Scamp

The kitten Estate bodyshell mounted on a Fox chassis is, I'm guessing, the one owned by Wallsend-based Reliant specialist and long-time mate o' mine, Dave "the gear" A***n. So named because he used to build Triumph Dolomite and Stag gearboxes when he worked at Cardinal Triumph back when they had workshops in the railway arches just off the High Level Bridge. (By the way, the big Triumph is, as Redsparrow said a 2000 [or a 2500], that extra window in the rear pillar and an extra few yards in length distinguish it from the tiny Toledo).Dave also runs a shite-tastic Espace as a mobile workshop, extra points if you can put up a piccie of that next time around. I'm sure I've met that Alvis on the road somewhere locally, it may not be true shite right enough, but it was being driven like it had been stolen! Great spots as usual Sir. 8)

Cheers - i did spot the Kitten in the back streets of Wallsend,is it really a Kitten body mounted on a fox chassis?I actually photographed the Alvis in North Wales while on a short holiday recentley.,this and the Jensen of course arent true shite as someone pointed out but still worth posting anyhow.

Yep, a Fox chassis 'cos they were all Galvanised from new, where very few kitten ones were. Basically the same, but the front suspension lower arms are of a tougher design on the Fox, hence the crossmember appearing more prominent and being strong enough to mount the anti-Range Rover bar on. :D 'Tis a good example that, the guy Dave had in mind for it (who may even own it by now) had a modern Microcar, an Aixam I think it was, but wanted something more car-like yet still within the 550Kg limit for his B1 licence.

Some quality shite spottage there!Going by those side window frame, and the the fact it has roof vent, the A35 'estate' is a converted van.

Nice bit of anorakage there, add to that list the fact that it's a post-1962 vehicle, only the vans lived on until '68, with the only ever North-South fitment of an 850cc engine eventually being the only option available.

I had a '64 van with the 1098, that was quite lively but beer crates don't make good chassis member repair sections, no matter how much catty you stuff into them.
