have you got dash cam footage for when she (her husband/boyfriend) claims you rear ended her?

i'm getting a dashcam tomorrow

i can't see that happening at all, she didn't even look in her mirror or out the car at all

with her lack of spacial awareness or awareness in general is the reason i didn't bother approaching her, she seemingly had zero idea at all that she had hit me

but yes, i reckon if i said she'd rolled into me, she would say that i rear ended her

You got away with it as you have proper bumpers 👌 Designed to absorb those low impact occurances and leave no damage.

What a novel concept 😂 Be a big cracked paint impact mark on something more modern! My Xsara has a small one in the rear painted  bumper (from before my time, although I've kissed it several more times since at the same spot... )

i know they're plastic but they don't sound hollow, to the point where i strongly suspect theres steel behind them

in the space of what 2 weeks it's been in 2 minor shunts with pretty much zero damage

i think the funniest part of it all was, her clearly struggling with what i suspect to be an Automatic and seeing her slowly creep into me whilst i'm frantically hooting the horn

i must admit even if there was some minor damage to me i wouldn't have been arsed, just lightly sand it and back to black it then it's invisible

Gonna give this a service tomorrow

what do we reckon, air filter, oil and filter and transmission fluid?

fuel filter was changed about 15k ago so I’d say that’s fine

i can’t really think of anything else

local motor factors sell dexron 2, I’ll have enough left over to do a free change after this

Posted

Are you sure it wants Dexron?

Most Citroens use a very precise Total or Mobil (used to be Esso) transmission fluid and anything else seems to promote mayhem.

yes the XM has the older ZF 4hp18 gearbox which takes Dexron 2

the C5 has the AL4 which takes esso LT71141 and about 5x the price of dexron

think i'll change the gearbox juice every time i change the engine oil

Couldn't remember the LT71141 bit, just that it costs the earth and stinks like cat pee.

Lucky that Dexron is acceptable.

gave the XM so good love today, of course couldn't get an air filter from the motor factors unsurprisingly

so ordered one on ebay to fit when it arrives

this is the oil i used

No description available.

here is another photo showing the transmission fluid i did as well, the oil filter was a NAPA branded one this time, seems alright and have driven it 15 miles since then and it hasn't exploded

No description available.

i put about 3L of dexron in, it looked alright on the dipstick so i've got enough left to do another change as i had 2L left from the last time i changed it

it was quite dirty but still red unlike last time so getting all the old crappy fluid out now

shifting even better now as well, silky smooth

No description available.

this is the mileage now

i've done almost 15k since purchase and in around 2 weeks i will have owned this car for a year

otherwise, all went well today and shouldn't need another oil change for a few months now

also got given a dashcam today so i got that fitted

Posted

i'm not sure what the factory interval on these actually are, i suspect it's every 6,000 miles for an oil change under normal conditions

i must admit i let this go to around 8k since the last change

oil has come a long way in the past 30 years, i'm convinced oil from 2024 will last longer than the equivelant oil from 1993

i usually change it between 6 and 10k

i must admit it does sound a tad quieter today after this change

i also change the ATF at the same time

i need some advice on what to do with the car situation

so i'm unemployed at the moment, financially not great but not abysmal and i live comfortably

i'm mentioning that in that i can't afford at all to run 2 cars at the moment

i realise the XM is mostly made of unobtainium, and what can be obtained will either be just as old or come from abroad

i also know full well, in the fact it was a fuck on getting an air filter that the parts supply isn't good, nor is finding someone to work on it

the issue is, it's been so bloody reliable, and so bloody nice to drive

i do, well did around 15k a year, likely to be a fair bit lower now due to reasons and me actively trying to save money on fuel

it just feels especially during winter like an absolute shame to use this as my only car and i am worried about ruining it

i really want to keep it, but i'm worried about ruining what is a very good XM, much too good for my standards

i could sell it, i'd want 3-3.5k for it really considering it's extremely sorted and everything works, but who the hell is going to pay that for an XM (i paid more than that for it)

or just keep it, enjoy it and use it as an actual car like i have been and whatever happens happens, i don't depserately need a car

just suffering with sciatica it does help driving but i can manage

don't worry there are no plans to sell at the moment at all

You love it, it's a car - use it.

If you get rid of that now you'll have sellers remourse forever .

Max, get (and use) one of these things and a pressure washer.

And don't stop using the XM. It's in far better hands with you than just about anyone who's likely to buy it.d740096df496d28c708d2a5803c0ccf3.jpg

This,it's a car.

Use it,enjoy it,break it,fix it,repeat.

When it stops being fun, then reconsider.

thanks for all the replies

you're right i need to just really enjoy it, it's my favourite car i've ever had and it makes me so happy driving it

i might as well enjoy it until it's absolutely mega fucked or something and then sell it on

last little bit of the service done this morning

replace the air filter, a piece of piss on these

the old one wasn't too bad either, but nice to have a new one in there

that's what 15,000 miles of air looks like i suppose

anyway it's good for another 6k now before the next oil change so that's a nice relief

Another 300 odd miles driven today

IMG_5976.thumb.jpeg.6d895469efc54c98f4a7621458dd834a.jpeg

bloody hell this car is absolutely epic on a long run

completely effortless to drive, really quiet at speed and so comfy

about 160 miles to drive on Thursday and I’m looking forward to it

334 miles in total driven today, used a hair over a quarter of a tank

Driving along today

theres a warning light on the dashboard

it says STOP

the screen was complaining about hydraulic level

pulled over and put a litre of LHM in until it was the right level, thought it was strange then thought nothing more of it

upon returning home, I noticed it was having a bright green wee from the passenger side

IMG_6059.thumb.jpeg.fa85433ce972b667b11450f92402d868.jpeg

ah well that’ll do it then

not high pressure or anything, a trickle as the car was lowering itself and nothing when running normally

just checked now and there’s a drip as the car is sinking while parked

thatll be a return pipe then

As it’s a return pipe I’ve ordered this to try and mend it until after Christmas

IMG_6067.thumb.png.d3f985f4445487bf757ae3acae58bc83.png

the plan is to cut out the bad section, and then wedge this over the ends of the pipe, it’s a slightly smaller diameter than the original pipe so it should actually seal

first hydropneumatic issue I’ve ever had!

Posted

Oh yes today marks 1 year of ownership! It’s been a great car

should be all sorted tomorrow, I’ve got an idea so watch this space

Posted

That hose was shite

so I used a different hose and clamped the fuck out of it

its mended

no leaks

oh and it decided to thank me for it

Got it leak free, popped the suspension down with the engine off all good

fantastic I thought, well I need to go to Asda

hopped in and

flat battery

i assume that’s due to me doing multiple cold starts and short engine runs

anyway a kind neighbour jump started me from their VW Golf R, sounded quite nice actually

took it for a good run to charge the battery up and is all good now

took it for a run, high speed as well

lots of clag when I put my foot down so must be running quite sooty at cold idle

but it’s functional again

Posted

Well it looks like I’m going to have to go out and buy more LHM

ive used 3L during all this including the last top up

local place sells it for £6 a litre so I’ll pop there tomorrow

Oh you mustn’t use rubber hose

oh those clamps won’t work

i don’t fucking care

it doesn’t leak
