Nice photos again Trig :) Add me to the Wolseley/Jag admirers. I hope that it stays unrestored, you can't just create patina like that 8) . I also prefer to see the original but cared for cars like that 1937 Ford rather than the over-restored examples you often get.

The tanker on tow is a 1950s Leyland Hippo, no doubt ex-army. No I'm not an anorak, I just go to more steam fairs than car shows and you usually see stuff like that at them

Finally, why on earth do folk stick boards with rows of rally plaques on them in front of their cars, the only thing it does is spoil photos

Tell me about it! The owner of the red Renault 16 on display last month at the Festival Of Transport did it, why obscure the front of a car you have brought along to display?!

Great photos Trigger, I love the 504 pickup, and the lorries are fantastic.

I agree with the boards as well, Really boils my piss, as do deckchairs right in front of them as well!

Superb pics. Add me to the fans of the Wolsley - fantastic machine. Also, love the Singer estate, don't think I've seen one before. That 1937 Ford looks exactly like my dad's 1st car, which I can just vaguely recall. Is it a Pop - my dad's car was a Ford 8, the Pop's for-runner? Opening screen, and external spare wheel with no boot lid look very familiar - if I remember rightly, the only access to the (very small) boot was from the inside, by folding the seat down.

I got chatting to the owner of this, Nice bloke who seemed surprisingly quite normal, It's running a tuned 136 engine and not a Fiat Twin Cam under there.

April 1970 making it a very early Avenger 1500 GL, The 81 year old owner has owned it since 1975 and it's still only covered 60000 miles, He's retiring from driving so it's up for sale.

I was very tempted but he wanted £1500 for it, He's only just MOTed it and it was very tidy though quite scabby, especially the sills, the underneath was also dirt free but lots of salt water scab marks from living in Clacton all it's life.

ZOMG YUGO 45!! This one was quite jazzy with the black alloys and headlights.

Early R19, This was a Left hooker so I'm guessing it's a French import.

I was talking to the owner of this as well, he was mad, telling how he's after some tiger seat covers for it, The wheel trims come from America, they had spinners but the Police made him remove them.

I could spend ages just staring in disbelief at it.

Unbelievable.

Very tatty and original looking, the paintwork was all cracked, Looks as if it's been laid up for years, Dragged out, MOTed, Plate raped then just used as it was.

Posted Image

This 1600E was stunning, the wheels set it of a treat.

GR12 Pics Trig!

The little diesel white thing is a Combidrive Mouse, as i'm sure everyone here was dying to know!

Nice photos, looks like a good show.

XR3i with Non-XR3i grill

Thats the right grill for a Mk3 XR3i, they had the same one as any other Mk3. You must be thinking of the RS Turbo using a painted Orion grill.

Great photos!!!

I bet the bacon boys were laughing their helmets off as the guy with the Carina drove away with his spinners in the boot! I wonder how much of his disability allowance got wasted on those.

That Avenger looks class, I dont think £1500 is too excessive, it looks mega straight unlike most avengers.

Great pics, I even like the Golf on Capri wheels

That white 'eco' trike thing might be a Mini El City?

GR12 Pics Trig!

The little diesel white thing is a Combidrive Mouse, as i'm sure everyone here was dying to know!

Is there an electric version of this? I'm sure I drunkenly bid on something incredibly similar on ebay a while back. (Fortunately I was outbid)

Yep, the diseasel version is the Combidrive Mouse, the leccy one is a City-EL. Quite clearly a massive bag of wank, i'm sure you breathed a huge sigh of relief when you found out you hadn't won it.

edit: it was also called a Mini-El, made by 'Citycom'

If I had some money, I'd see that Avenger as some kind of destiny and buy it. It's exactly the same age as me, and I was ferried around between 1972-74 in a similar 4dr example with twin headlights.

Is it just me, or does it look a bit 'wrong' around the rear arches? Somehow looks too smooth.

Posted

I thought that but it seems original to me, The only things that's been replaced was both front wings and the front panel he said, It's lived in the garage all it's life, and then tan interior was mint, under the sheep wool seat covers. 8)

It even had a steering wheel cover, sadly the bodywork was covered in very small scabs so it would ideally need a respray.

I think he would drop from £1500 quite easily, I was going to offer £700 but my dad was with me and started going off on one about selling my car first and how the underneath was covered in sea water scabs (bareing in mind the underside didn't even have a speck of dirt let alone any oil  .)

I've kept the number though, The old boy was very nice and you could tell he loved it, But he could hardly stand now.

Posted

Bigger photos, Still keep thinking about it, I doubt he'd take £700 for it, It's only just past it mot and is tax exempt.

I have found myself sourcing the web to try and find out more about them as i know very little really.

Very little you need to know about a solid, original white Avenger Trig.

But I'm going to offer an opinion regardless....

Avengers are cheaper than Escorts and that alone means that everybody should own one. :)

Avengers, especially the 1500, have engines that are more difficult to destroy than the contents of Gary Glitter's hard drive, tough as the toughest thing ever + a bit for luck.

Avengers are the next big thing and they, along with CA vans, will be one of very few vehicles that you'll see when you get to heaven.

Buy one, buy one now, you know it makes sense.

Posted

I can't sleep for thinking of this Avenger! I think there be a phone call in the morning.

Posted

It does look well lush. I have to own one of these. Soon.

Posted

Well I've made the phone call :P I spoke to his wife as the old boy was out, I wanting for her to call me back so i can view it now.

She told me that they have dropped the price to £1250 and won't take anything less, I can't decide if that good or expensive.

Also it's running a dynamo still (Which has been recently replaced) and it's possibly has drum brakes on the front? (Disc brakes being a option on the early models). Two things I'm not sure about?.

Edit - Fuck it, the wifes a pain in the arse, just rang me back to say £1250 is the price, no point coming round if not and i can't come round today anyway also someone local wants it and she'll ring me back if he changes his mind, Why are old people such a PITA?.

Posted

I agree with Tayne, dont get in a tiz about it, stay cool. If you were meant to own it you will, in time, dont be rushed into owt.

Posted

Yeah I agree, it's a nice car but it needs work. Just think how much work it took to earn £1250. I reckon they are bluffing if someone local is interested, it's an old trick, and even if there is someone else interested I bet they haven't mentioned the price. Don't rush into anything, there are others out there.

Posted

Cheers guys, I think she's bluffing as well, It needs paintwork so i don't want to spend that much on it anyway, and i still haven't sold my 1602 which is what i wanted to do first anyway.

We will see, I think i just like the fact it's been garaged all it's life by this old boy who's had since 1975, That doesn't make it worth much more though, and she kept going on about how it would have to be cash and not a cheque, I explained to her how i like to deal with bankers drafts but she was adamant that it must be cash, which is a right bugger as it takes a few days for my bank to get the cash in.
