I've seen 2001 Multiplas under a grand!I gave in trying to find an mpv, went on to trying to find a decent estate and ended up with an XM hatch!

Am I right in thinking the S80 is the saloon version of the V70?

Yes, thats right!
No, it isn't. The S60 is the saloon version of the V70. The S80 is the big bloaty thing. The S60 is rather beautiful. Not many modern cars I think are gorgeous, but the S60 is one of them.

Yes it is. The s60 is a totally different car, its smaller than the 70 series. Check out the later S80s and youll see they are a saloon version of the V70*edit* Just checked and its the third generation V70 thats the estate version of the second generation S80Just checked again and the S60/S80/V70 all used the same floorpan. Now Im just confused....

Well, still no resolution on this despite much effort. Thursday found a decent-looking Galaxy Ghia with a desperate seller - £2000 for a 52-plater, under 100k miles, super. 'Cept he wants £200 before we'vew seen it and Mrs can't come with until Tues, call him back yesterday, sold to a dealer. Followed up with a 53-reg Hyundai Trajic I had bartered down to two large, then showed it to the keeper of the purse who struck it from the list as the seats "looked scratchy". This afternoon she spies an 807 in the trader at a sensible price. So off we go to have a look. Very very nice men with thick "luton" accents and no idea what constitutes a saleable car - it's fucked, with collapsed seats and an inoperative electric door. Thanks. They do have a nice Galaxy being prepared that he would do us for a "very very nice price", except it's a 2.8 pez with a slushbox. GR8 4 RUNNIN COSTS. So still no further forward. I've a "watch list" full of very reasonable priced, nicely spec'd sedonas with lowish miles, all way cheaper than the scabby ex-taxi mainstream chod we have seen. But the parts "are dear", and they have a low NCAP....I cannot win.:twisted::roll::evil:

I saw a '10' reg Seat Alhambra today, amazing that theyre still knocking those out. The factory must rattle about 20 off every monday then sleep for the rest of the week.

RLY!>? I was shocked enough when we found a 2008-registered Sharan at the local VW stealership. It was £18,000, and I later discovered they still list them at about £30k!

Plus a 1-owner from new minicab 5 year old Sedona that has done 300,000 miles has probably been better maintained than a 5-owner 10 year old, kiddie trashed Sharan, right??

Would you like me to have a word and see if any of our fleet is up for grabs?
Posted

I did spot a brand new unregistered VW Sharon and Tracy the other day. Just looked wrong to be honest! Bit like 04 plate Citroen C15s.Just buy an LDV Pilot minibus and some ear defenders. (more for the management complaints than the fruity exhaust note!)

LOL, I actually showed that to the Management, which earned me a particularly withering look. Shame, as it is superbly beige...

I really can't understand this obsession with OMG NCAP STARZ. Even a Kia Sedona is many, many orders of magnitude safer than anything we were transported around in as kids - when I was poglets' age my dad had a Renner Six, which had about -17 NCAP stars (it didn't even have rear seatbelts ffs), and I'm still here.

I reckon you should get a Citroën H van crewbus. Stylish, easy to work on, and most of them are tax exmpt - what more could you want?

Tell if she keeps up this attitude she's not having any car at all, then buy it anyway.

Agreed. I remember being six up in my Dad's Talbot Samba as a child!H van is a good choice. Not actually fast enough to have an accident in. Safe innit.

^^^^ thats a good idea, low carbon footprint, just drive around with a load of beanbags in the cab for instant low-cost NCAP points.

i was doing really really well at looking after my 806 which now has over 200,000 miles on it and still uses virtually no oil, changes gear perfectly and generally drives really nicely.Even the interior is okay. The problem is that my wife nicked it off me and is slowly destroying the bodywork now.I suppose that if I chucked £600 at a body place they could get it to look nice again but I'm not sure there's any point they way that my wife drives  Hi mileage but low years airport run cars can be a good buy, and I do see still see emaculate 806s around, but maybe if someone has a good one they're not going to sell it for a few hundred quid which is all they're going to get for it.Stay well away from 807 / new shape C8s, they have an awful lot of electronics and they just aren't as robust as the older 806 style. The Japanese look after their vehicles much better and so a freshly imported Jap MPV might be a good way to go.

why do people say "freshly" imported ? Does sitting in a ship in the middle of the ocean for 6 months reinvigorate a car ? oh soz thought I was in the pedant thread again..

You forgot being clocked vigorously at the docks.

Not dicked about with or neglected by someone in the UK.Import one from Japan, change all the fluids and belts, and then look after it and enjoy.

My vote would be for a Toyota Granvia with 3.0L turbo diesel and automatic trans if you can afford it. Get a good one and you won't need another vehicle for many many years.

I have 5 kids and without doubt, out of all the people carriers we've owned, the Pug 505 was without question, the best. We had three of them and they easily beat the Espace, Galaxy, Space Wagon and Previa shite we had over the years. I let the last 505 we had go for a paltry £140 as I couldn't afford to get the big-ends replaced due to imminent birth of youngest child. A decision I kick myself about at least twice a day!

If Mrs_Pog is really serious about safety, forget NCAP stars and get her and you to take advanced driving lessons.

Contrary to what the marketing boys say (these are the ones who want you to part with 20k on a new car, so they're a bit biased), it is possible to avoid accidents, and "it's not just you, it's the other people" is horseshit too.

The best I've seen was actually a motorbike trainer, that's where it's really important because if you crash there's zero protection. He even teaches you to avoid SMIDSY accidents which is a classic "the other bloke's fault" crash.

NCAP stars are for those too lazy to really care about safety IMHO. If you really care, take responsibility for it. Don't trust it to someone else.

I'd take that a step further and make it illegal to fit a seatbelt to the driver's seat of a car. I'd make insurance illegal too.

"Sorry Mate I Didn't See You"Quite a popular excuse in cycling accidents with cars...

While I can admit to having 3 Sharons at one time and actaully liking them. the best value in my opinion would be a first generation Mitsibishi Delecia, tough as old boots, cheap for parts and it WILL protect you in the unfortunate event of an accident..............however as to Mrs Pog likingh the looks of them or not is another matteror try a VW sycro big enough, economical enough and 4WD as an extra

I think it's a little overstating things to say you can avoid crashes by driving better. No comfort to me when my 2CV got smashed into by a Mondeo that failed to stop, nor my friend who was smashed into by a twat in his dad's Honda Civic discovering what understeer was.
