Just normal people things happening here.

@MrsJuular is stripping the Ami for spares for her car so I gave it a tow up to where all the tools and things are.

Meanwhile I tried to get the BX up high enough to drop the rear axle a bit. This was an enormous time consuming fail.

PXL_20240628_132424010.jpg.1b3d38f138581d173a89b4902cae5380.jpg

Plan was to stick it up on ramps, put axle stands under and put it to low so that the ramps could be removed.

This didn't work as I don't have any large enough axle stands. There's also few places to safely support the back end except the axle itself which makes things more difficult.

So what actually happened is that I set it to low, it sat down on the axle stands and then shit itself.

I had accidentally bumped one of the pipes off the reservoir which resulted in a large amount of LHM being pissed out, then it didn't have enough left to raise itself again. Trapped!

I had to go out and get some more LHM before I could do any more.

In the meantime I finished off the repairs in some decent primer.

I can now put the front panels and lights on.

Also, the exhaust is a bastard to get off, but even more annoyingly the new one doesn't fit!

Unproductive so far..

But you are doing Gods work trying to resuscitate a floaty Citroen. Hats off to you.

Progress stopped for a bit as I got a shot of one of these for a day.

It was a driving experience day on the Battlefield line as a birthday present from @MrsJuular. Massively enjoyable and a really nice friendly crew there. I highly recommend it. I got to drive a class 33 two lengths of the line, once light engine and once with a rake of Mk1s with @MrsJuular @chaseracer and @Talbot in tow. Around 30 odd miles in total. Highly educational and insane amounts of fun. I could've happily spent the whole day pottering around in a loco.

Back to fettling the floaty Citroen, and time to test some basic things like lights and wipers. The foil tape resilvering has worked quite well actually (it's the one on the right).

Headlights work on main but not dipped due to a blown bulb filament. Indicators work, as do lights on the rear although everything is so dirty it's hard to see.

So let's sort that.

A good couple of hours of scrubbing there but how satisfying is that.

Glued on the plastic trim piece at the repaired arch. It looks terrible but I will paint it.

The drivers side has some rust patches on the door that are going to receive the most phoned-in repairs possible.

Sanded back and treated.

Filler applied with a backhoe.

Then the cheapest rattlecan white. This is the closest photo you're getting. It's fairly grim.

Finally, the exhaust was convinced that it would indeed be fitting this car after all.

I had to file away the bumper to allow the somewhat more obnoxious tailpipe to fit. Again this was phoned in but I intend to tidy it properly at a later time.

That's enough self flagellation for now. I think we will be back down round about shitefest time to sort a bit more of the cosmetics and electrics.

Back in its hole for now, but looking significantly more smug than it has for some time. I look forward to feeding it copious amounts of vegetable oil on my daily commute.
