Shite lames to fame

The talk of Sooty's van on another thread made me think about other famous vehicles I've seen. The only other one I can think of at the moment is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which I saw at Glamis a few years ago. It is enormous, based on a small lorry I think. I checked the tax disc and it's registered as a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Has anybody else "met" a famous car?

I drove James May's Ami before James May did. Only in a car park, and a month or so before he bought it at action.

I've seen John Barnes Lexus LS400. Or is that a bit too lame!?

I'm just wondering what he's got on his CD player in his Lexus - I'm betting on Anfield Rap and World in Motion..

I see the Mk2 LWB transit Richard Hammond drove on Top Gear every time I look out of the window! I believe Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was made on a transit chassis too.

When I was on work experience they were looking after Jools Hollands E type Jag, and there was a slight bit of worry because it was smoking on startup, which turned out to be just condensation evaporating......

all the chitty chitty bang bang specials (by Alan Mann) were based on a Zodiac Mk4 floorpanarticle about it on my scandump http://z14.invisionfree.com/Classic_For ... wtopic=305

Did you panic?
Sodding temporary speed limit on the roadworks around Silverstone at the time. We took Our Delorean, a BMW Z1 and that to the Make a wish foundation do held there a few years back. On the way back all three of us got done. Me for doing 40 in a 30 zone. FFS that thing was frightening enough at that speed with cable brakes and all. Got the Photo off the speed camera from Northhants police as a trophy somewhere!

So is the transit line a myth then? I am sure the axles look familiar!

I used to use the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 that was given away on 5th Gear a few years ago. A424GRK.Looked ace on telly, and was valued for the programme at £15k. They didn't mention the cheap blow over it'd had, t fact it needed the drop sills welding, the sticky front brake caliper or the whiny n/s wheel bearing.Still, didn't cost much to put it right.

About 5 years ago, I was in the process of looking for a Mercedes 300SE to buy, when I actually found the one I bought, it was next to a Lexus 400 that had previously belonged to Imran Khan. Oh, the choices we make in life eh?About 25 years ago, I also used to work for a chap in Sunningdale who was in the process of repainting Ringo Starr's Mercedes late 60's 300SE!!I met Bob Carolgees at a petrol station at Caenby Corner as he was filling his Mitsubishi 3000GT or Supra thingy up.I also once replaced the front pads on Mika Hakkinen's Celice GT4 when he was with Dragon Motorsport, I worked over the road from his digs, in a Yugo/Dacia dealership..... in rural Wiltshire.Nearly bought the Mk2 Escort that features in the still motion scenes from the titles of Minder, too, but never had the cash in time!!!I need to get out more!
