Anyway I’ll shut up about it now, I can see it’s wounded enough pride by saying the M sport is anything but an absolute pedigree motorcar.

Pistonhead score 0,33 / 10. Lack of reading comprehension and use of phrase «PCP they can’t afford».

Renault Clio MTV.  It had a couple of stickers and a CD player.

Bonus bizarre TV ad:

This reminds me of this

Remember when Talbot raided their back catalogue of names to sell the Solara Minx and Rapier?

We also had the 307 Rapier around 2002/3. Basically a 1.4 S.

In 1995, Ford had the Mondeo Ultima. I don't think I've ever seen one, even when I was valeting at Evans Halshaw Exeter in the late '90s. Was the Ultima any good? I'm guessing it may have been the forerunner to the fully-specced Ghia X, since Scorpio Ultima had a better ring to it than Mondeo Ultima?

In some parts of Europe they called the top spec the Renault 21 Manager.

They kept it even later. One of the lowest specs of Megane II Sedan sold in Romania was the "Megane Manager". I think it had manual AC, and electric windows in front. Mated to the 1.6 petrol engine.

On the same note, the cheapest 407 you could buy over here in the same time was the "407 Paladine". That if I'm not old enough to have memories of things that never happened

R5/Clio campus. Presumably aimed square at the student market.

I can see you really liking it on here with your self deprecating sense of humour.

My second 407 was not only a GT, but a GT Multimedia.

Which as far as I know meant sat nav, and a hard drive based jukebox for storage of many choons.

And a Galaxy too. Another short-lived venture into premium territory. File under 'Vignale'.

I briefly got excited when looking for a mumbus for Mrs Grogee when I found a Galaxy Ultima, we didn't buy it though. I will forever regret it, I'm sure.

Beetle is an oddity as the air cooled one wasn't really ever official a Beetle, it was just The Volkswagen, or Type 1 once the Transporter and 1500 (type 3) range came about - with the exception of special editions, starting with (I think) the GT Beetle, then all sorts such as the Jeans mentioned earlier, Sun Bug etc etc.

Formula Vee is quite a good tie-in with the race series using single seaters with Beetle suspension, gearbox and engine

Then there's the Marathon - nothing to do with chocolate bars, it was to celebrate making more Beetles than Model T Fords. We got flat screen 1300s in metallic blue with special steel wheels, the rest of Europe could chose to have the 1302 body with MacPherson suspension but in the same colour etc

To celebrate their partnership with Tour de France, Hyundai released the special edition Santa Fe Wiggins. Extras appear to include a Wiggins badge on the wing and Wiggins-branded mats.

They should have done a "Biggins" edition as well.

I used to work with a bloke called Wiggins, he'd have loved that

Presumably referring to the start of the European Single Market in 1992, which I remember was quite a big thing.

Correct! Still, imho it would make more sense to name them "Euro 92" then, or something like that.

How could I forget? My parents owned this damaged repaired limited edition Astra California 1.4 hi torq. Based on a Merit - but you green coach stripes and black cloth seats!

Very "West Coast gangsta" don't you think?

That was a football tournament, surely ? :-)

Not a trim but .... my brother decided to collect the 1970 Esso World Cup Coins (which was tricky as nobody in the immediate family drove) and I can remember my aunt driving us about popping a couple of shilling's worth in at each garage trying to get Martin Peters or the like.

I think that’s a Tempra (or is it a Sierra behind that one again? 😄
