Deffo the Chasseur, a name reincarnated for the Sierras. The Red stripe graphic on the Granny had little stick men doing sporty things on it!

Am I imagining it, but didn't the come with their own luggage, all in the same colours as the trim?Or have I actually gone mad?

Is one of the stick men a banger racer by any chance?? ;)

I recall these - but on the Sierra I think it was silver (paint job) with 'Chasseur' in a sort of 80s font (might be wrong on these)Wasn't the Sierra Chasseur something like a 4x4 or something? Sure it had some 'extra' to the transmission.

Most likely 5th gear. And a clutch that worked. And no whine.

Ah, not 4x4 then - all I recall is the owner of one showing me how you could tell it was a 'Chasseur with XX gearbox' by pointing out 2 extra bumps visible inside at either side of the transmission tunnel. I know what you mean about the transmission noise on some of these - there was a mini cab company in the smallish town I grew up in that ran a fleet of diesel Sierras that we suspected were all cut and shuts - you could always hear them coming before you saw them! I still recall the sound to this day (15 years later) Actually this is the same cab co. that ran the coach that crashed last week in the snow.

When I read that I thought you had but ive checked in a Ford brochure that I have and your right the Chasseur did come with its own luggage to quote what it says "as an additional special feature the load compartment is provided with four practical simulated leather holdalls"The Granada Chasseur was 'the' car to turn up to the golf club in 1980.There is also the MKII Granada Sapphire which looks very smart http://www.flickr.com/photos/stuart166axe/2232897477/

simulated leather holdalls

isnt that typical of Ford

ive yet to see a Chasseur in the flesh, (or a Huntsman Escort / Cortina) and i understand (from an article in Insight, Ford's own technician's magazine) that it was intended as a prototype for the Geneva motor show, and only a handful were ever sold in the UK. most selling in Germany and Holland.

I think it was one of the first injection Granada's too.

The lumps in the Sierra floorpan were standardised for the MK2 shell, to simplify production types. This is the reason I prefer a Mk1 over a Mk2.

Sierra Chausseur was just a povo spec with a few choice items (tinted glass) to make it look a bit nicer. They really should have fitted dangly mirrors.

Looking through the description in the promo I have its more than just afew items it has quite alot of differences listed including half leather seats (must be unusual for a Granada of that era?) electric windows all round, air con was available and a Chasseur option pack (alot of Fords special editions had their own tailored option pack offered, the Escort Linnet had two!).

There's a lot of forgotten Ford Special Editions, many of which must be extinct by now. I've seen a couple of Escort Linnets recently at shows.I picked up a little brochure for the Capri 1.3 Cameo recently, possibly the shittest Special Edition of them all! I also got an Orion 1600E brochure - lush 8) I'll scan them when I get the scanner fired up again.

I saw a Fiesta Classic Cabaret yesterday.... for those who are scared both by facelifted cars, and too much equipment.

Lucky you! ive only seen 1 Escort Linnet in the flesh and that was back in around 1994/1995 when I was still in school, I had to go to the careers office (now knocked down) and I passed a white one parked in the street on my way there, I never saw it again. I've been keeping an eye out for one for years as I have a MKII Escort Goldcrest and it would be nice to have a Linnet to compliment it (hanging out for a white one aswell, I know I want the world don't I!)

Holy thread resurrection Batman

Sorry my first post is such, but I came upon the site searching for more info on the Chasseur. I just missed out on one the other day (sob), and always wanting more original info - Autofive, can you scan the info from that Insight magazine? I was bidding on a copy of that on Ebay but the PC crashed just before auction end.... I remember cutting out a road test of the Chasseur from a newspaper back in the day, even as a 12 year old I still like big estate cars, wierd.

I know this topic is fairly dead, but I do agree that Ford of that era had some superb graphic artists who managed to make some very average machinery desireable with some sticky stripes and paint jobs - like the Fiesta Bravo and Quartz (with graphics nicked from earlier Bertone and Pininfarina concept cars) and the Capri Cabaret/GT2

Like Allegros and Tagoras, no threads are EVER dead on Autoshite.

i ll have a look for the issue of Insight, although i suspect its in the loft*

*the term loft is defined as a place to store everything that SWMBO either moans about, or doesnt know i possess, therefore 'looking for something in the loft' is a long, laborious process involving the moving of at least a dozen large boxes down a ladder, just to move past the entrance and begin the search

I remember all three of those, as well as the Chasseur - not to mention the Topaz - as mark 2 Granadas were very popular in the part of Kent I grew up in, especially with taxi firms. The Sapphire was particularly lovely:

More mark 2s here:

:D :D :D

As you might have guessed, I love pre-1985 Granadas and hope to own one at some point.

Thanks for that much appreciated. I know I have to dig out some obscure kit car information for another enthusiast from some cobweb infested pigeonhole.

Did you get the magazine from a collector in Stanley? (BTW I am in Durham too)
