Another MK1 focus into the fold.

Looks nice and shiny. 1 family low owners since new.

Very clean design for a 20 yr old. New Edge looks both 90s and modern.

But shows it age in other ways, mainly tunage. No aux in, DAB or Bluetooth.

It's a ghia, but No heated seats or cruise control.

Fluffy Ford seats with comedy afterthought armrest.

Grey on grey 1.6 powerhouse for schlepping into town and leaving parked on the road all day. Looks gr8 M8, billy bargain, what could be wrong with that...

Ah yes. Frilly old Ford....

It might have been easier for the tester to list the things not corroded!

That has to be a picky tester though...

Yassssssss. If you ever do away with it I'll take yer velour seats.

"Corroded hub assemblies" for fuck sake 🤣

The tester must have worn the ends of their fingers off typing* that lot out

*I know it's not typed out, but you know what I mean!

But you have the 6000rds!! That is (was) the dogs bollocks back in the day!! I still have two detachable button sections floating around unused somewhere.

Sounds like it’s a case of run it till the tests out and throw it away. The welded up subframe sounds a concern, a new one isn’t very expensive. The rear corrosion sounds par for the course, avoid disturbing the cam bolt on the trailing arms at all costs.

Vanishingly few mk1 Focii had cruise. Makes you wonder why they bothered developing it (tooling up for switches, testing it etc).

I've seen a few with pleather but not sure about heated seats.

Yours is from the age where Ghia meant 'looks nice in the brochure' but needed £thousands spent on options to be well equipped.

Re: aux in, there is almost certainly a Chinese cable available that plugs into cd changer port on rear of unit and gives you a 3.5mm jack or Bluetooth in. Check eBay.

I've had two and I'm still jealous of yours, they are brilliant.

OOH a ghia, lovely. Especially so as it’s the plush cloth not leather. The leather on these just looks and feels like plastic, the cloth is so much nicer IMO.

Did the 6000 have a separate amp?

Looking at the brochure for my Puma it seems there was an audio upgrade with subwoofer available but I've never seen it. There was even some sort of dealer fit sat nav which I've also never seen, I bet it was really shit.

I had a 6000 RDS in Mondeo once, it was odd because it was one up from base spec, it had the Clarion CD autochanger either in the boot or on mine it was under the passenger seat. I think the amp was built in, it had slightly higher rated speakers as well.

Ah, I see you have that fancypants heated windshield. I am seriously envious.

Re trim levels, I believe Focuses were order-made, i.e. you specified what you want and do not want before they even started to manufacture your car. E.g. I saw non-Ghia 1.6 with TCS,  1.6 Ghia with heated seats but without fog lamps, 1.8 without TCS or A/C, but with sunroof etc. etc.

The earlier ones seemed better specified, they did do a CD unit that had the autochanger built into the head unit, difficult to find now as they were prone to the mechanism jamming. IIRC Visteon made the lower end ones, on the facelift high spec Mk2 they started introducing Sony.

The 6CD changer was the 6006E I believe, or the 9006 in the ST170.

Here's the weird satternav thing. I've never seen a Becker in a Ford, I wonder if it was a Euro/continental thing? I kind of want one now.

The bloke dropping the car off must have run over his cat or something. It's that piss takey that I'm going to call shenanigans. Did he fancy it himself, was there a PCP deal desperate to be done? Something appropriate just over here sir, you're lucky we have this one.? I dunno, but it smells off to me.

However, I've not looked that hard yet and it's not perfect by any means

Some sill rot, but I'm not scared of what I can see there.

Sure do. Was a pretty nifty unit once, still plays the radio well.

And the heated front screen, just in time for spring.

Got to drive it today. Felt like a SUV as you're high up compared to the Volvo.  Sticky throttle action and stiff gears need some lube somewhere. Idles low and a bit lumpy at 750 on the dial. Might investigate.

Plan A is just to run it till the test is up as a very cheap short term stop gap, but it might be too good for that. Jury will remain out until I've been under it with my own corrosion assessment tool.

It's been an car just fine. Mot looms so prodded it.

Ah.  Both sills need the rear half replaced, it's all thumb bendy soft.

And both subframes are fucked (and have been welded badly in the past! )and the cat's not there.  Bridge it is then.

Car take back are offering £299, so £325 for 6 months tip runs, dog walks and commuting to and parking in the centre of town is ok. And it was delivered with a half tank of fuel, so about £250 emotionally. Not upset with that.

Nice ghia interior. Any offer above £300. Just saying.
