Number plates with dealer names

Cool.

My BMW has one plate from Dick Lovett & one from Barons, who were the original supplier - I'd like to get them matching, not that there is any real

need :?

I had a set made up from here for my MR2 that I had. Very pleased with them :D

I didn't know that there were some rules on number plates:

The British Standard also requires each number plate to be permanently and legibly marked with the following information: * The British Standard number (currently BS AU 145d) * The name, trademark or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier (The company that made the plate) * Name and postcode of the supplying outlet.

This sounds like a trivia question, but did you know that some testers could fail a car on silly details like this?

Obviously those rules over plates being manufactured, and cannot be applied retrospectively, so it would be hard for an MoT tester to fail old cars on those regs.

Indeed, if they are original plates in good condition they can't fail the MOT. I have even had SERCK plates go through, which to make now is illegal.

Exactly right - no MoT tester is going to check it, but typically we have rules to govern it. Does my head in all the different ways you can theoretically be got at.I just bought some plates for the Saab, and there was some blurb in with them. Previously I've bought all my reg plates at car shows.

How would the tester know which dealer supplied the plates (or car)?Good idea for those plates. Pity they dont supply the rear window sticker and tax disc holder to complete the set.

There is a dude on another forum that can do window stickers, tax disc holders and plates to certain dealer spec' .If anyone is interested i will try find his Email address (never had anything from him as of yet, but have heard all good words)

I think anything '51' plate on has to have plates with BS number and postcode of supplying dealer. Before that you can have pretty much what you want within reason.

Many car dealers and manufacturers had their own numberplate fonts, often with tiny variations.

I'd be all for the VAG crew if they started re-manufacturing these instead of fitting cruddy 'Euro style' plates.

It's illegal to sell without this information (just like kitemarks on certain things, etc)., but this 'law' is just to protect the government's asses and to avoid cloning. No-one's going to die. :)

Selling these number plates funds drug dealing, just think of the kids!!!

So true, and illegal plates are a key source of funding for TERRORISM as well.

Not true.

It is certainly illegal to supply number plates for highway use without these details but they are NOT part of the MOT. They were in the MOT test for a few weeks but hastily removed because of legal issues.

The paper copies of the MOT manual still show them as a fail item because they have yet to be updated.

The electronic version is the one the tester should always work to and that does not show these items as reasons for fail.
