more money being spent

new front tyres on wednesday, drivers side is worn to buggery on the inside edge and both are around 2.5mm anyway so makes sense to just change the pair

Good choice. I got some of these for the 406 a few months back – all 4. Initially I was disappointed as the general feel of the car was quite coarse and they were noisy. After around a hundred miles they changed character for the better and since then have been quiet and smooth with decent grip and  handling. MPG seemed to improve slightly too compared to the previous Michelin Pilots.

they’re excellent tyres got 4 on at the minute but one of them is absolutely knackered so replacing the pair

i will have the passenger side from available for sale, 4mm or so across the whole tyre for say £20 or so as it seems a shame to waste it

currently sat in ATS waiting for new tyres to be fitted

theyve actually raised the suspension before lifting the car

i’m surprised!

That's only £60 more than I paid for the pair of budgets fitted...

Maybe next year I'll splash out on a better pair to replace the rears and do some wheel swapping... Did regret not looking around when I bought the new ones last month, I split the payment into 4 and for another £10/£15 a month could have had some decent ones.

Hey ho, next time! It'll look good once you've scrubbed the sidewalls... 😂 (does 'er indoors know your into that sort of stuff yet?)

i’m surprised how cheap they were, so cheap it was pointless going for budgets plus i wanted to keep them matching

surprisingly i haven’t got any tyre shine stuff at the moment, will have to get some this werk

I recently fitted the  195/60/15s to my Ovlov for a slightly dearer price but clawed back £80 by flogging the 'free' gifts that came with them.
It may be that the big tyre places (I used KwikFit) have overstocked in the common sizes and have to shift them out ?

Brakes are spot on albeit with no abs

intermittent fault, sometimes doesn't appear from a start and won't come on until you start moving

or when driving

sometimes stays on from start and goes out next start etc

i suspect a speed sensor

Not feeling this car at the minute I must admit

This is all the stuff that's causing the Christmas tree

worst thing is it needs a replacement ABS pump

add a new windscreen into all of that as well

im not quite sure what to do

Rather foolishly it seems I didn't select that option

Is it possible to get a good used ABS pump?  Bet they're hellishly expensive new

Yes they are

thats what I'm going to try first and see if I can sort that

Insurance or test due first?

According to @Talbot the windscreen crack  rules have changed in March  and it’s now down to the tester’s opinion.

Windscreen condition for MOT has indeed changed, it's two criteria

1) Is it in an acceptable condition?

2) Does any area of damage adversely affect driver's view of the road? [Or an obligatory mirror]

A massive "spiders web" bash in the passenger side, for example, doesn't affect driver's view, but the windscreen is in an unacceptable condition, so it's a fail. See below as an example - imagine the unaffected area is the drivers side. Even though their view in the old Zone A is unaffected, it's still a fail!

image.png.0f8842dfa5446cef22032c366225d5a4.png

And the adverse affect on driver's view of the road criteria is pretty self explanatory

No more 10mm in zone A, 40mm in zone B nonsense!

If it's just a long crank along the bottom or top, or indeed anywhere outside your line of sight, it's not an MOT fail

Now, the ABS fault. FYI:

I'm not sure if they're plug and play, so I'm not sure if a second hand replacement would help you. If they are plug and play, you could probably get a second hand module for £50 or so. Make sure all the numbers match if you do.

If they're programmed to the car, then the above rebuild will be your best bet. It's expensive, and you'll have to still pay on top to have it removed and refitted, and then bled through afterwards unless you fancy doing that yourself

Ecu testing will rebuild your abs pump for 250 quid, I have had a couple of peugeot/citroen ones done, they aren't particularly difficult to do and bleed if you have diagnostics.

Edit didn't see above post :)

The crack is a large crack along the entire bottom of the windscreen spanning from near the passenger corner to just past the middle, looks awful

ABS pump wise, I don't believe a like for like swap will need to be coded, if I could find where the pump is it would make it much easier but I suspect it's under the battery tray and I'll have a look this week some point

for reference here is the crack, it's a biggun

went out in the car today, no lights at all, not even an eml over a 20 mile drive

decided to test the abs, absolutely rammed on the brakes twice and it worked correctly both times, these tyres are grippy as I had to really stand on the pedal to get it to kick in on a dry road

im wondering, I had the washer pipe detach from the bonnet the other week, could this have soaked everything in screenwash causing the fault?

I'll keep an eye on it, but it's a strange one, all I did was let the car sit 48 hours

Does the battery look like an antique? As I'm sure you're already well aware, this era of PSA can throw stuff up like this simply from a weak battery.

As an example on a C4 GP, 2010, so a bit newer but similar era, a little bit of rust build-up behind an abs sensor caused an abs, parking brake and automatic transmission fault message, and put the autobox into limp mode.

So they are incredibly fussy things.

If the battery is a bit weak, and it's only happen after you've let it sit for a while, I wonder if the voltage dropped a bit and upset everything.

A bit of a far stretch, but given its intermittency, don't overlook it

Mine had a speed sensor fault a few years back. The symptom was that the speedo needle would intermittently drop to zero and the mileometer in the trip wouldn’t increment. No error codes generated that I’m aware of.  I had a new speed sensor fitted when it was serviced. The part was widely shared among PSA cars, cheap and easily obtained.

Over 100 miles covered now, with a variety of driving and yet absolutely no lights at all not even an eml

it could be the battery, it is a newish looking Halfords one but never had an issue starting so will monitor it

othwrwise all is well with the car, even washed it today too
