Sure, if he’s ok with it.

I’ll message him tomorrow 👍

A little upset this evening. The sharp tape deck has failed. Ruthie said her tape broke on Friday but it’s the deck that’s broke the tape.

I need options folks! These dash boards don’t like taking full size CD players, so I’m happy to replace it with something that’s Bluetooth or has usb/jack aux point. Or is it possible to have this one modified so it can be Bluetooth etc?

I have a Bluetooth cassette. Should be fine in there as there aren't really any moving parts. It's got its own battery which is charged via usb. It was about a tenner from the usual scumbags.

Alternatively I'll sell you a 90s tape/radio that works and will sound better than that catalogue junk...

I'm not sure it's completely dead. It only needs to press its head against the tape head , the mechanical whirly bits are irrelevant for these purposes. Ie it doesn't matter if the tape drive works or not.

Well the mechanical whirly bits are making a right racket inside, sounds like the engines thrown a rod! The speakers will blow up next if I have to compensate for the noise! 🤣

I would have thought that originally that would  have had a digi philips item?

Unsure. Be nice to find out. I will have to look for a brochure in the loft. There’s a couple of old decks on eBay but untested.

Use a bluetooth speaker instead and leave the broken one?

My Mk 2 cav SRi ( B 1984) had one so I would have thought a CD would have as well?

So the Carlton got the DC751 like this,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293490591594?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=aUD2R_-GQuC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=oSyz5_rPQeO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

£60 with £20 postage. Are you f**king kidding? Twenty quid to post? Cost me less in diesel to pick that up! And it’s listed as broken. No thanks

the 752 was standard in the L/GL models. But I’ll keep my eyes on that as it might be an option.

Or you could upgrade to a DC842 which was available as a factory fitted option.

They seam to be even rarer than the lower spec ones. 😢

I had this problem when trying to replace mine in the Senator. Got lucky in the end but meant an interim replacement.

Should be a DC751 for a CD (DC752 was actually a cheaper version)

Impressive levels of retro car geekery right there!

I think my Dad's C reg Cavalier CD had a 751.

Yes, anything badged GLS or CD would have the 751, except the Senator CD which was the only model in the entire Vauxhall-Opel range to have the 842 as standard.

My good friend has found a pile of 752s in his garage 👌 what a hero 😁

Thanks, I remember it had a habit of finding minicab radios when scanning through the FM frequencies.  The top end was allocated to 2 way radios  until the 1990s.

Well I took both 752s back home. I pulled the sharp radio out and found the speaker wires had been cut and extended. The power and earth wires had been extended from the plug luckily. One of the radios had plugs in the back with a small amount of wire attached. I used the power wire and crimped the old plugs to the loom. Only have 3 speaker connections. Odd. There’s 4 speakers…. So radio number 1, powers up and can tune in radio stations fine. No sound out of it though, and now has a tape stuck in it. Bugger. Radio number 2 has sound, but needs a code. Buttons don’t work and no code. Feck.
