My 3.6 was slightly less fuel efficient but more or less the same and I got 35mpg on a run from my 4.2 supercharged. I'll pass on going to town, thanks, though I'm a big fan of living within your means. But the daily does 25k+ a year and the shopping trolley does 6k, so the 182 getting ~45MPG is welcome.  The difference can run an entire other car..

Good to hear there might be light at the end of the tunnel, Eddy. Running a car you don't need isn't sensible, but I reckon everyone has  something they spend unnecessary money on and other things they're tight as the proverbial with. Was trying to get my youngest son interested in it and a few seeds were definitely sown! He'd spotted a previous gen one with issues a while back he liked the look of. He's a mere 24,so hopefully the future of shiting  is in safe* hands. Good luck with it.

I've just put a set of these on the missus's RCZ after some cunt slashed her tyres for having the temerity to park outside their house on a public road for a week.

They seem ok to be honest, not as good as cross climates obviously but 450 quid cheaper.

They'll probably be perfectly adequate for bimbling around town and the occasional motorway run.  It's not like I want to shave 0.4 of a second off my Nurburgring lap, is it?

Yeah for bimbling about they'll be fine. Just don't expect too much in the snow or ice and trying to get any power down. Tbh bimbling in a cold engine V8 in deep winter will be a super expensive business anyway.

Maybe a little late to the party, @eddyramrod, but I’ve got a spares X350 on the back of the truck currently and it’s got a few new rear suspension bits on it.

My exposure to these cars have made me of the opinion that they're actually quite simple. Especially compared to their contemporaries of the day which were all horrid diesels. (Audi's diesel was OK other than the timing chain which was fixed later down the line)
The diesel Jag is a BIG no though.
The air suspension isn't complicated in the slightest but people run scared of it.
They don't rust.
The engines are very good in petrol guise. I'd say potentially one of the best line up of engines, not sure anything better has come out since then in terms of, power, reliability, economy, ease of working on and cost to repair. Made even cheaper by the timing chains that very rarely go wrong. Even the superchargers are known to do 300k+ miles.

I maintain, and bang on about it far too much, for the money a V8 early X350 in good condition is probably one of the best cars you can buy if you're even slightly capable of repairs or have a bit of know how on how to keep these on the road cheaply. Long live the Jags and thank you ford for doing the XJ proud.
