I like these, I always though that they seem a bit unrated, Sportly looks, roomy and quite nippy as well, this one's £200 or best offer but...

Get the GT version and its more than the looks that are sporty, we had one and it was a cracking car.One thing they are not is roomy though, well certainly not for family use with that low roofline and high sill not helping matters.

But it's got popup headlights, and does it have frameless windows too? What else is there to a car??

Wuv - the 602cc engine is actually 3CV, so makes sense for the 652 to be 4CV. 2CV was only really accurate for the very first 375cc Tin Snails, but the name kind of stuck!Incidentally, anorak fact, the Ferrari Testarossa is a 36CV.

I think the 2-cyl visas are a 3CV, and the 4-cyl ones are a 4cv.The CV number is not just based on the engine size or power, thats a factor, but weight, seats and performance are somehow randomized by the french govt to come up with a meaningless all-round CV value.

The car's gearing is also taken into account when calculating CV ratings - higher-geared cars attract lower ratings. Of course French bureaucracy being what it is, when 6-speed boxes started to come in in the lat '90s they didn't fit into the obscure gearing calculation so attracted stupidly high ratings.I remember 954cc Visas, Sambas and the like being 4CV, and I always thought the 652cc cars were 3, but maybe the lower gearing of the twin-pot cars was enough to push the rating up?

Ohhhh that is well lush. However I would be unable to resist driving about with a lump of red leicester on the dashboard, with the inevitable dialogue with anyone who happened to query the presence of the dairy product.

forgive my lack of knowledge, but in the context being used what does CV mean?

its the french power rating on average you pay per CV (when you change the paperwork) to get the polo into my name was around €200 its 4CV so around €25 per CV which is good but if you drive a big yank 33CV or a 4X4 it could cost mega bucks

So the French calculation (before they started having to consider CO2 bollocks) was:

P = m (0,0458 x C/K)1,48

Where C = engine size in cc

m = a coefficient of 1 for petrol engines and 0.7 for diesels

K = (k1 + k2 + k3 + k4) / 4 for a 4-speed box

K = (k1 + k2 + k3 + k5) / 4 for a 5-speed box where 5th is less than 1.25x taller than 4th

K = (k1 + k2 + k3 + 1,25 k4) / 4 for a 5-speed box where 5th is more than 1.25x taller than 4th

k = km/h per 1000rpm in each gear

I would hate to be at a dinner party sat next to the person who came up with that formula.

Next slide please :wink: That takes me back to maths at school where I would sometimes look at a page of numbers and it might as well have been a page of Finnish for all it meant to me :?

I didnt know those even existed on an H-plate. These SAAB's must have been like somethign from mars back in 1970. Brilliant!

Posted

Yeah, are these the Saabs with the dolomite engines?

Yes, although this is a 1709cc version. They moved onto 1854cc before reworking the engine to make the 2 litre.This one will have a freewheel too, apparently they're fun in something as heavy as a 99.

Tatra may be quite a good one under the vinyl cover, wonder what he really wants for it?
