I don't think this would be much even in Ireland as it has half a million km on it and with defects from the MOT on serious rust.

I should probably have written about the condition of this one as it is not good.

The rust is superficial, I doubt it would even fail over here if it had gaffer tape over it. Unless there's chassis grot to go with it this is a megabarg.

Photo below is of the paper you get from the Norwegian MOT.

But roughly translated. Too much corrosion in the front left frame beam. Too much corrosion in the middle right frame. Excessive corrosion in both rear frame beams. Too much corrosion in the sill on the driver's side. And it is more but less serious.

All these American cars - are they ones that sold new in Norway, or imported later on?

Thinking particularly of things like the Cadillacs, Buicks, Chryslers etc, I can well imagine a market for cars like Ford Falcons and Plymouth Valiants in 1960s Norway but surely the higher end brands must have been stupidly expensive?

There’s not many Jaguars or big engined Mercedes in these ads either, unless you don’t show them.

Am I right in thinking there were, or are, very heavy import or purchase taxes levied on cars?

Some of these American cars were sold new here but most are imported. And typically American cars sold in Norway, are the base models with the smallest engines. But some more expensive ones were sold.

And there are a lot of taxes on cars with the exception of EVs, so together with a lack of interest, few large engined cars have been sold.

It's a fascinating story but I can't stand movies as they always get something wrong or make something up and it really annyos me. But I saw a Norwegian documentary earlier this year about the gold transport and it was very good.

Norwegian WW2 history seems quite unknown outside Norway, which is a shame because a lot of incredible things happened.

And if you are interested in such things, below is one of the incredible stories from Norway during WW2.

And how some cars are priced is incomprehensible to me, this one is worth much more, in Germany I would guess at least double what it is for sale for. So no wonder some of these have been exported.
